The level of panic and hysteria is fucking ridiculous IMO. Yesterday at work people were scrubbing their hands thrice as hard as I've ever seen and using sleeves to open doors to save touching them. And I'm talking healthy adults here.
Per the WHO report:
For most people, COVID-19 infection will cause mild illness
I, for one, refuse to function out of fear in this thing, and will not be a part of panic buying/stocking up, for I feel that is more detrimental to others than for me to take my chances. It disgusts me the way the media has everyone so fucking riled up about this.
It's not like I haven't been badly sick before, and I'm confident that if it hits me I'll be able to ride it out in bed with what I have and develop an immunity. And even if it does kill me, at least my last days on this planet were not spent in fear of that fact.
Fuck that. Fuck that to seven bells and hells kingdom.

It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

Jokey baby! what's up doo da?
yeah, I'm with you mate. I'm not going to freak out over this. My mate on the other hand has had respiratory issues since he was a kid. He could have major issues if he catches this thing. We both got some kind of cough/sickness when he got his flu shot a couple of months ago, around xmas actually. I hope that built up an immunity to whatever this thing is.

Bingo.
Also 3.4 death rate among those tested. And only people who even had it bad enough to go to the hospital get checked. So among the worst members of the population to have the disease it's only at 3.4 measly percent

Whoa, are we gonna play it like that? The Dutch RIVM (State Insititute of Health and Environment) just sent out a push notice to people in my province who have "mild health complaints" to "stay at home." because the count went up from 82 to 128 overnight and there are several people among them in my province who can't be pinpointed to a source.
"mild complaints" being coughing, a nose cold and fever. Other than the fever, thats me for the past 3 weeks.
My selfimposed quarantine has now become official.

I'm going to stay safe, I'm pretty confident about that, but my guess is its going to be an old folks holocaust in my country. We have so many so old people and they're in many cases shacked up in old folks homes.
I wouldnt at all be suprprised if Holland ended up 100,000 short by the end of the year.
So much for vergrijzing

Over 26,000 cases outside of China.
Before the month is out there's going to be way more cases reported outside of China than inside of it.
Once that happens, no doubt, China will ease into the REAL figures of what goes on there, when they are no longer the odd one out.

I just saw a report that was warning about the virus possibly spreading through mosquito bites as we go into the warmer months. That would be catastrophic if true. Stupid asshole bugs. They are already a vector for many other illnesses.

This is from the WHO
To date there has been no information nor evidence to suggest that the new coronavirus could be transmitted by mosquitoes. The new coronavirus is a respiratory virus which spreads primarily through droplets generated when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose. To protect yourself, clean your hands frequently with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Also, avoid close contact with anyone who is coughing and sneezing.
So there is no evidence supporting but also none against it. I think it's to early to tell yet.

What was the source of that?
Sounds hoaxy... At least I HOPE its a hoax.
If mosquitoes spread it, this must already be happening in places like Indonesia where its quite warm.
I hope your source isnt credible because that would spell disaster.

And yet, it isn't the "stupid asshole bugs" that are threatening to destroy the substrate they rely on for their very existence. That would be the stupid asshole self proclaimed 'intelligent' creatures.

I'm so frustrated with the "all this fuss over a flu" people. You just KNOW these are the same people whoi carry the flu everywhere when they got it.
A) The flu is serious business for some people who get it from you
B) COVID is 34x deadlier than the common seasonal flu and 2-6x more contagious.
Everywhere COVID actually arrives its stories of ICUs etc, people don't realize that 1 in 5 gets so seriously ill of it that hospitalization is advised and 1 in 20 gets critically ill.
Seriously ill:
-viral pneumonia -high fever
Critically ill:
-respiratory failure -septic shock -multiple organ failure
Asante incase you are talking about me, just so you know I have been taking precautions in my personal life. cleaning off handles on things that multiple people touch at woek, washing my hands frequently, avaoiding people who cough and sneeze like the plauge, ect. I'm even going to start wearing a face mask if Ontario reaches a certain level of cases and I'll be stocking up on food and water aswell.
Just because I'm advising people not to panic does not mean I'm not taking measures to avoid the spreading of disease.
Since I heard the news I've been thinking about what acrion to take and in all my posts twlling people not to panic have also encouraged people to prepare.
I dont think anyone in this thread is telling people not to worry about being prepared.

So I've been watching a lot of infowars since this started ...
The notion has also been circulating around social media. I think it may be a hoax but I also think they don't know for sure yet.

I honestly don't know what I'm going to do if I start having symptoms.
I already have all these fucking medical bills that I'm fighting my insurance over, I can't not go to work, but I don't want to be that asshole who spreads it to like 100 people and ends up killing a few of them in the process. I can work from home a few days of the week, but most of the time I have to be on site in order to do my job properly, and that's still a better position than most people are in where they have no work from home option at all.
My state(PA) finally just started medical testing. I'm in the eastern part of the state, and NY and NJ both have it, so there's no way it's not here, and I'm expecting a few cases to pop up any day now. Really freaks me out though. I don't think I'll have a real issue if I do get it, but I worry about my roommate's daughter. My parents are over 60 but pretty healthy and really active, so I'm not that worried about them. Just feels like the world is kind of falling apart.
