Brodifacoum is one hell of a drug. * 2
    #26518085 - 03/05/20 07:09 AM (3 years, 11 months ago)

I sat in my livingroom, when in the adjacent room a mouse walked by. I waved my arms, stomped the floor, it would not make haste.

It went to sit by a chair leg in direct view of me.

I got up. Sat there.

Walked towards it. Sat there.

Attempted to stomp on him, at this point he got underneath the chair, and from there, a getaway.

Flee all you want lil critter, I know you've been nibbling one of the tasty red pellets I laid out a few days ago.

Brodifacoum is one hell of a drug.

I use warfarin blocks and basic spring traps with peanut butter. Cheap and effective. Every now and then we will find evidence of the little shits in our fucking kitchen drawers, so we gotta take everything out and put it somewhere else and fill the drawers with traps and poison for weeks on end, then clean the hell out of the drawers and hope it doesn't happen again soon. Little bastards. Bats in your house are worse though and we definitely have those. The cats catch them usually but every now and then I'll have to intervene or just get swooped on trying to stock up my wood furnace. I used to think these were one offs and oddities until I was taking a shit and one tried climbing out from underneath the crown moulding in the bathroom, as there's a bit of a gap.  I hear scratching and see a little head poke out as I'm wiping my ass. Suddenly it's 3am, the kids and wife are sleeping and I'm stomping and yelling at this thing to get it to fuck off long enough to let me get the shit off my ass. Imagine a bat swooping around your bathroom as you drop a deuce. Fuck. It came out a few minutes after I was done but thankfully my cat was on that shit so I didn't have to play broom-knight again

My mice probably entered when I had my door open a lot due to work being done in the house, but if you have them "out of nowhere" then chech where they are getting in.

Warfarin? Does that still work where you live?

I'm thinking of creating an oldfashioned heavy metal bait that gets them in 1 day instead of 5.

Carfentanil would be good now, carfentanil in peanut butter and the dead mice lie beside the bait, on their final nod.

Reminds me of a time I was helping a teacher get rid of a mouse in her office, we were chasing the bugger around and  moving the furniture it would hide under until it finally headed towards the door, it made a u turn back into the office and I stomped on it instinctively! Everyone looked at me like I was a psychopath, I don't really blame them, it was a kind of brutal way to end the little guy.

I have used an electroshock trap in the past with great succes. Kills them instantly and no poisoned d3ad carcasses left behind that other animals can ingest.

Its an old ass farm house. The mice get in through holes in mortar between the stone foundation. Which is impossible to fix without digging the house up. The bats are there because the previous owners left the soffit and facia to go to shit on the front side, which is fixed now but the only way to get rid of them is a pretty costly visit from the bat guy. I could just toss a bunch of bat poison in to my attic I'd imagine but I don't really want (x) corpses rotting above my head if I can help it.

I know exactly where they come out too, just need some netting, self tapping screws and a tall ladder. The warfarin blocks are just something I buy because it's what's available that manages to be hard for dogs and cats and kids to get in to because they come in these little sealed plastic houses of death

Then I wish I stomped him correctly to put him out of his misery.

If thats how I would die in this life, a obese giant stomping on me, I'd be relieved at the mercy of it.

In advanced mode you can rumble them from their hideout and block their retreat path with boxes, and then you can sweep them out the door with a brush like a graceful hockey lob shot.

How could you scoop me out of my warm surroundings, you bebrushed devil.

Most poison has second and third order effects on the food chain, and is much crueler than than simply setting a trap or killing the mouse yourself.

Brodifacoum can take days and weeks to kill, and is also poisonous to birds of prey, cats and dogs, and any scavenging mammal checking out a free meal.

I don't even use poison for insects when non-chemical deterrents tend to work just fine.

Poison is bad for other animals for sure. That isn't the reason you should not poison animals though.

NEVER poison rodents in your house. They will eat the poison and then crawl into your walls to die. It's not fun to have dead rodents rotting inside of your walls. Just get one of those spring loaded traps with some peanut butter. Problem solved!

They don't all go for the peanut butter though or some of them are just slick like that. You can get electric traps but they're $30-40+ each and they probably get gross. It's like a box with a plate on the bottom and you bait it. I've had mice crawl out or set off spring traps too many times to count, which is why I give them the option to die slowly and hopefully feed it to their young

When I was in Florida working as an electrician we had a big ice machine in the back for our coolers and we had a lot of raccoons in that area for some reason. My boss decided to poison them one day and I think he used antifreeze.

They drank the poison and I guess they get really thirsty when they are poisoned that way. One crawled into the freezer and ended up dying in there.

We started early in the morning when it was dark to beat the Florida heat and my journeyman ended up filling his water bucket with ice and didn't see the dead raccoon. He drank the raccoon water all day and didn't find out until like 5pm that day. It was total LOL, especially because he wasn't the nicest person to work with lol.
