I am thinking about agar and my WBS shoeboxes. Then it occurred to me , How do you set up notifications on threads? I have no way of knowing if I get replies on a post unless I go back to the thread I posted on.. what’s up with that?

A quick way to check new comments is the thread link under your user name. If you click account link, there is an option for receiving email notification.

I love the new avatar, but I do miss the old one...
Lmao yea I think maybe its a common misconception that it kills the yeasts. I guess if you used enough of it probably would but once you put sulfites in there they're in there they arent part of what gases off so you dont want to be using enough to actually kill off yeasts lmao. It is to my understanding though that potassium metabisulfite doesnt actually kill yeast. I dont know a whole lot about brewing but it is one of my favorite hobbies.
I definitely dont miss that avatar I had it since 2011. I was never as happy as the day I changed it lmao. Wont be long before im tired of this one though.

Hey, has anyone here ever cultivated P. Serbica? I have some dry fruits and thinking about trying to get some spores cleaned up on agar...
I could not find one single post documenting the cultivation of this species. Why is that? I mean, look how beautiful they are!

Yeah, i took the picture last fall. Alright, i am gonna try it! Did anyone here ever obtained spores from dried fruits? I have looked into a couple methods, but i was hoping that someone with experience could point me to the best one.

I have not done this, but have read that your best bet is to take a piece of the dried gills to agar in the hope that some spores will be stuck to it and germ. I've heard some say to crush the tissues so it is kinda powder and smear it with a loop like you would spores, others have said to just take a tiny piece and lay it on agar. Read of mixed results in any case but I see no reason not to give it a shot.

Hmmm, how about crushing a few gills, then adding like 1ml of water, then looping it to agar?

Seems like crushing the cap and spreading it on a plate would work.
You can clone dried tissue why not do that?

Fuck it. I'm in the middle of a mass restart anyway. CRS seems to be the only one that I don't have a good print, old MSS, or old agar plate of. I'll dig through my duffle bag and find some dried CRS fruits and give it a shot as well.

Lol that’s the spirit!
When I first started reading stuff here I would occasionally see somebody mention they had just thrown out a few pounds of shrooms and that shit was shocking.
But now that I’m deeper in it i can see it happening. I mean I don’t think I could bring myself to do it quite yet but I’m definitely running out of room. I bought a case of half gallon jars thinking I’d only need a couple. 1/3 way through lagm and they’re all stuffed.
The cult will get you.

For a timely egress, I try to keep all my dried fruits in a duffle bag. But yeah, at some point I'm gonna need to unload or get another bag. Way down in the bottom is a bag of some of my first fruits mixed together. luckily I know the CRS in there blow their spore load before harvest so I know both which are CRS and that there are plenty of spores in the tissue. I'll try scraping some off, crushing some gills, and also try a piece of the inner stipe just for funsies and see what happens.

Have you tried cloning dried tissue before?
I don’t remember exactly how it’s done but I think they soak it for a while then drop it to a plate. And the soak might’ve been in a mild bleach solution, like 5-10%.

I have not. I've seen it discussed a few times here but would have to do a search to find out the process. Really glad this topic came up actually. CRS was one of my favorite and my first. Those guys would punch you in the back of the face. But a series of bad decisions and mistakes left me with no good way to bring them back. I gave away almost all my prints and only had some VERY contamed plates to work with. This is probably my best bet at bringing them back.

So I'm gonna play tonight. Oyster blender style. EAT get credit. He finally made a Tek around it while I was away. Original idea was to blend cakes.
Anyway, instead of water or some liquid innoculant I did agar super runny and plan on nocking up the jars with a clean wedge. Let it grow out a few days and blend that SOB. Should have clean runny agar slurry.
I probably shouldn't drink so much.
