Hey Guys -
I am new to this and have tried and failed 3 times... Is there anyone in the greater Portland, OR area(Beaverton / Hillsboro) that is willing to take a guy under his arms and show a guy the ropes...?? Not even sure if this post is allowed to ask, if not, sorry... if so, lemmeno.
Thanks,
SubyRoo

Your best bet is to follow the teks on this forum, what teks have you tried and failed? I’d recommend preparing some wild bird seed jars and spawning them to some shoeboxes

Assuming this is not a setup: Why would anyone use their valueable time to teach someone who failed 3 times with one of the easiest hobbies that exist? It's literally impossible to fail PF Tek if you follow instructions. Actually any Tek.
And now that you obviously failed, I don't want to raise any doubt that you are stupid or anything. Not at all, failing happens and is all bueno However it also means, that you repeadetely did not follow instructions or worked very carelessly. This however are attitudes, which with a mentor cannot help you. In fact are attitudes, which make people unattractive to a mentor: A mentor is not a babysitter.
I would advise you to just try again and follow the Tek closely (this is some general wisdom for life).

Go with presterilized stuff, its more expensive but easy for a first timer until you learn how to properly use a pressure cooker

I assume you mean the pf tek, I don't think you are letting your substrate colonize long enough you need to wait a week after it is fully white and colonized. After it is colonized it is very resistant to mold

Okay,I'll give it a try, but I have waited a long time... I waited 2 weeks past when the jar was completely white... when I pulled it out for the dunk, it was solid... very solid. I am wondering if it is my fruiting chamber... I spray and fan daily but I don't know... it turns mold color but doesn't scrape off, so I assume that is bruising... then before fruit or right when I start to see some pins it gets thick mold in spots...
Ugh...

Well that's a different one, haven't seen that method before... I've just tried the PF Tek... and used Golden Teacher spores... do you have a link for the bird seed method? Which species is best?

Dude skip PF tek. Get a pressure cooker, seriously. Don’t waste your time. I’m new but check this out.
Look up how to make grain jars (Wild bird seed for example.)
How to make lids
How to pressure cook
Inoculating grain jars
Let them sit (read while you wait.)
Spawning grain jars into shoeboxes (coco coir and vermiculite are most popular.)
Etc. just read. You need a pressure cooker homie

Your mentors are here. Show pictures of what you are doing and the community will tell you what to do. It's nice to have the in person expertise, but I doubt that's gonna happen . Get used to the forum environment, the self doubt, and take your time reading and learning. Learning takes time.

Here is a thought:
Ok, some random from the internet wants to meet up and have you manufacture psilocybin for them. Or, You want to meet a random to teach them to grow.
Even if it worked out temporary. Like, no one was a cop. Could you ever really trust either of these parties overall judgement? Would you mind if that person told their friends and family about that guy they helped out?
What happens if one of you noobs do get caught? Let me guess, you gangsta as fuck, you will take the time and hold it down for the homey.
Lol, NOT. You gonna tell on everyone trying to get away. You don’t know this joker who made you grow shrooms, he left that shoebox here, I dunno what’s in it?!
So, let’s wind it back OP. You probably wouldn’t get caught anyway. But, It’s not that hard to DIY, you are just being a quitter. Almost everyone here learned by reading and practicing. Not from a IRL guru transmitting grow powers to them. Start reading all of Bods teks. Look at beginning with agar. You can do it.

I thought he was talking about whatever not working once he took it, like an aya brew or something. Odd thread.
On a completely unrelated note, I’ve noticed the amount of threads have taken an uptick the past two weeks.
