Tighten or loose plastic lids?

I got bought some plastic mason jar lids, drilled a hole in the center with a SFD underneath the lid. When PCing can the lids be tight and closed all the way? Or do you have to leave them loose also like regular metal mason jar lids? Whenever I was using the metal rings and lids I was told you need to leave it loose because it can explode and shatter in the PC. How do you do plastic lids?

Whaaaa
I always thought you only loosen them if you’re using shitty filters.
I may be wrong but I’ve PCd hundreds of tightly closed jars with SFD filters🤷🏻♂️. No explosions so far lol

Do you use plastic lids? If so, do I have to get any special kind? Or do they have to have a special rubber seal on the inside or something? I was just planning on getting regular plastic ones for mason jars here at a store.

I don’t use them but yeah, those are the best ones. Some people even use the off-brand kind.
Can I ask why plastic? I’ve always loved the 2-piece lids for mycology. I figure G2G is prolly much messier with plastic lids.

I'm thinking about buying some SFD's, but I've heard you need to you use them with plastic lids so everything comes off in one piece when inoculating. How do you do it with the lid and band?

The plastic lids you can get on amazon are the proper plastic (pp5) as long as you have a hole (filtered or otherwise) you can tighten the lids down... I wouldn't crank em down but they do not need to be loose.

I make 14 lids from one wide-mouth SFD disc.

P.S. Please disregard the SHIPs. I don’t use them anymore - just the filter hole.

I've been using the plastic lids from Walmart, drilled hole and a polyfill filter. I just snug them up i don't crank them down at all. it says on the lids "not for processing" but i've PCed them several times with no problems. I used to crank the metal lids down tight when i first started and I never had a jar explode. I realized that makes for problems in the still air box because they are hard to open if you crank them down. I leave them loose.
That being said I prefer the plastic tops to the metal ones. I used my metal lids until the were completely rusted out and then fazed them out for plastic lids. way better in my opinion.

plastic or metal lids it doesn't matter if they are tight they won't explode lol. as for your question they will be a bit loose after the cycle anyway just tighten them once they are cooled off.
