I would have voted against the shoe box, fermented smell means bacterial contamination on the outside of the cakes. Now it is in your spawn. I'm gonna bet we will see mold soon. I would have used the SGFC and dunk and rolled them. Hopefully this turns out good.

Thank you both for answering. As of today the shoebox does not have a small to it just something that smells like it should, moist earth.
In a way I'm ready to give up on this batch because everything seemed to go slowly from the time I inoculated the pf tec jars.
I think that "mycelium" is decreasing instead of increasing. I don't know why that would be but I was hoping for some mushrooms today.

Where did you get the spores?

Forgive me, I don't want to say where I got the spores from because I don't want to unfairly damage their reputation but I bought them in October and I started right way. The jars incubated very slowly. I did contact the seller at that time and they said possibly the spores got cold during transport and if I had a problem that they would send me a replacement. Personally, I didn't think it had many spores in it. At the time I thought that it was nothing that a little patience wouldn't fix and I guess I am still practicing the same idea. I do believe that the person is/was honest.

That’s cool, I’m just wondering if maybe you were sent a different species accidentally.

The cakes look normal, but I have no idea if they would look different if it wasn’t cube.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to whether I should continue being patient with this or is this not ever going to go anywhere? Thank you.
