First harvest 1

I picked mushrooms for the first time this morning. These were from a MS syringe noc'd on 1/30, so 34 days between. All of these came from 3 of the 6 tubs that are pinning/fruiting right now but more than half of that was from just one of them.
This mushroom is no big deal but it's the first one ever picked so I weighed it separately just to get a sense of what to expect. I took 67 grams from the first tub.
So, 131 grams wet so far. Maybe I barely broke 100 if you factor the crud still on some of those, I don't know. What I've learned today: First I have new respect for you guys who are really doing bulk and dealing with pound after pound. Picking and everything that goes with it is a little tedious. Also my mushrooms look kinda like I just yanked them out carelessly- not the case, I'm just really green. Brushing the sub off (which I keep thinking of as dirt) is a pain. Because I'm strictly a hobbyist with more than I need I went ahead and trimmed of the bottoms on many of them...cleaner wins out over weight at this point. I also took four samples from one stipe and dropped into agar dishes. My skill and technique doing that was kinda like watching a monkey fuck a pumpkin. Hopefully not anything that can't be cleared up with a few transfers, though. Also I tossed agar plates into 7 new jars. I started them from a colonized grain, same batch as I just harvested. Practice, really, and practice is what I need. Tiger drops look easy online. Mine- again, the monkey and the pumpkin. Anyway, wanted to share that...also I'm open to hear any critiques or pointers. The harvest is in the dehydrator now.

No criticism here, just a congrats!
Seems like you are well on your way and from what you wrote here, have a good head on your shoulders for learning and improving as you go.

Much appreciated! I'll try to convince the girlfriend of that tonight when she sees the dehydrator running. The one thing I can't really hide in the closet.

Nice job man, the first pick of your life is a crazy rewarding experience, may many more come your way... It only took me 4 or 5 mushrooms picked that way (twist and pull) before I realized I was just hurting my sub and wasting time by having to trim the stumps later, and started just taking a blade to them in the tub and leaving a stump behind on the sun... maybe You’d want to console trying that next time...

Thanks! In retrospect that really seems like the way to go, especially since I'm not opposed to losing a little of the weight from the bottom.

Ok it was more like half a tub that I did like that, but you can still keep the stumps and use them for tea if u haven’t tossed them yet... the coir just adds a little fiber to your diet lol..:

Tedious is an understatement.
Getting ready to do this again. Tub 3 and 4 of 12 spawned lastnight.

Thanks buddy. I really have studied a lot. It's funny because I strictly got into this for personal use of the end product. Now that's really an afterthought. I'm way more concerned with cultivating. I never thought I'd get excited at the smell of isopropyl but I do now when that's wafting through the air.

Dude, when I saw that thumbnail I thought those were WBS jars. I thought, yeah, cool, that's maybe three times what my first round was. That's a sick amount of shroomery there. I reminds me of the old school candy stores where they have everything in glass jars.
