Lion's mane block fruiting after just 12 days
    #26509126 - 02/29/20 01:48 AM (3 years, 11 months ago)

Hey guys.

After much selection of Lion's Mane on agar, i appear to have found a culture which produces fruits after only 12 days of inoculation. It almost sounds to good to be true.

It has a lot of metabolism going on at the top, so i wanted to get a secound opinion on the looks of the block.
Although i am 100% positive that it is fruitbodies forming, and not a contamination based on their looks. Does it look as it should?

I pressed all the air out and slit a hole in the side og the bags, hoping that the fruits on the top won't rot while fruiting it.

With that amount of metabolites there's likely an unseen contaminate stressing the mycelium. But if its fruiting then its fruiting. They'll be fine to eat. Just keep an eye on it; bacteria tends to open up weak points for mold to take hold.

Yeah i thought so. The plate had been in the fridge for some time  so it wouldn't be a surprise. I'm pretty happy about it though!

12 days is not at all uncommon (it is the norm for the primary commercial strain I grow) but that block sure suggests that it has a contaminant. You might want to try culturing a sample from that and see if you don't find some sort of mold becoming visible.

Okay okay, i won't be psyched about it then. The culture cleaned on agar next week. I dont really care about what contaminant it has.
