What turned my cubes green?
    #26517168 - 03/04/20 07:05 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Hello all, first time grow. Mushrooms looked fine until this morning (5 days since pins noticed). There was a little blue/green discoloration in the cake which I thought was bruising as it had not changed in about a week. Now all of a sudden when the veils broke the rest of the pins turned black. Upon harvesting, the inner part of the stipe is blue/green. Is this bruising or contam? Are these salvageable at all? There is another cake that was in the SGFC with the same discoloration but the pins on it remain healthy looking.

Psilocybin and psilocin. Some people say they can be toxic.

Hahaha oh that’s really great !
That is the actives oxidizing in the air after you cut them off the cake , improperly I might add.
Next time twist and pull gently

Or slice them. Different ways to skin a cat. Usually people cut tubs and pull cakes. I don't think it makes any difference.

Probably not .. I was thinking that stumps might rot if cut instead of twisted off .

You are right , to each their own.

Thanks guys. I had never seen pictures of the stipes after harvesting so it was quite startling. Why did the rest of the pins seem to turn black after the others matured? Also, I cut them with an xacto blade following Ziran’s PF Tek.

The blackheads are called aborts .. after you harvest from the cake , again I think twist n pull is best,
You would remove all pins and aborts and soak overnight in water for the next flush. As well as roll them again in vermiculite
