Blobs on the first flush are common, especially when you're trying to grow penises.

I've seen it on cakes that were non PE variety aswell. Those don't look like PE to me.

I've had this too. I believe I remember reading that blobs and fuzz on fruiting body stems was caused by lack of FAE. Your pinset looks great though and the pins don't look like they need more FAE. That's just my untrained eye though.

Fuzz is well believed to be due to lack of FAE. Haven't heard that blobs are caused by FAE or lack therof.
Many claim that good surface conditions (e.g. tamped down pseudo-casing layer) help prevent against blobs.

I have plenty of those in one of my trays right now, first flush. When blobs cover a large portion of the surface, they can prevent proper pinning, but yours are doing great.

This makes sense. I must have been misapplying the info from fuzz to blobs. For a cake, what would cause less than ideal surface conditions which then cause blobs? A light dry verm layer? General conditions in the FC leading to undesired surface conditions?
