Is this overlay? Side pins?
    #26514742 - 03/03/20 02:39 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

these shoeboxes have brf syringe inoculated spawn into coir verm with the same sub as a casing. spawned on 2.18. I am now getting pins but lots of side pins and I'd like to know what I can do to avoid this next time. And if anyone can tell me what causes side pins? I used the search and I read so much but I left thinking I can't do anything because its the genetics?  I grated the brf cakes and mixed them fairly well into the sub- I just didn't level it out well.  I'm having to mist these shoeboxes often because the casing seems to dry out in the heat of our apt. room temps are about 76. Thanks everyone!

Surface seems very uneven.  Tamping down can address this.

They do look dry.
What do you do for FAE? Can you decrease it some?

I dub tubbed them. I could put the lids back on and latch them. should I tamp the casing down?

Yeah put the lids on. Unlatched on one side should do it.

IDK if tamping down would hurt or help, it is more of an initial thing, so keep in mind for next round.

Oh no, no, no, just leave it. Doesn’t look like you’d have a canopy either way.

Focus on surface conditions - it’s way more important than even pinsets.

Use a black trash bag lining on the inside of your tub, so that it shrinks away from the wall  as the mycelium does. No more side pins.

Definitely too dry. You gotta have the surface covered in beads while it’s knotting so there’s a lot of evaporation, which causes pins. Your sides were wetter which meant more steady evaporation which led to pins.

A couple sprays of super fine mist out over the tub so it rains down will help.
