Read through those posts.
I was showing how using facts and figures could do the opposite instead of just putting the whole population into a spin.

thats what hes been doing to everyone who brings facts he doesnt like.

even though hes the only one acctually speaking with such certainty.

You did not suggest that this is definately going to blow over soon. neither did I. yet hes coming at us for casting doubt upon his certainty.

I said multiple times that he could very well be right. but if you even suggest the possibility that hes wrong he will treat you like an idiot and someone whos doing a disservice simply for pointing out that nobody knows how bad this will be.

if you even try to look at this from multiple angles you are part of the problem it seems.

I'm a risk population due to my heart disease, I saw mortality for that quoted as 10+% and thats not even counting my other detrimental health factors. This, and COVID is at large in my town, out of quarantine.

Humanity needs a paradigm shift where it stops competing and starts synergizing towards a common goal.

This disease indeed is part of what urges that process to hasten.

COVID-19 is Greta Thunberg with an Uzi.

I'm not pussying out. If COVID kills me, my work here is done.

There is a yet unknown number of cases in my town because of the way it came about.

I'm bugged in for a few weeks to see whether the situation in my town gets contained or not.

My guess is -not-.

The Dutch task force had the luminous idea to, if the number of patients increased, to quarantine them in nursing homes.

No, they weren't making a sarcastic joke, that was the plan.

Suppose you flew in from Milan or Wuhan and reported problems with your airways.. picture that.. The Dutch will -NOT- test you for COVID, they will only do so if you came in from a high risk area, AND had respiratory problems AND present with a fever.
What a joke!

I think it's irresponsible to try to convince people that this will blow over and that it won't effect them because they are middle aged. The virus is spreading and spreading quickly. The government is doing much to stop it either. All I hear about it some testing and "monitoring" 10's of thousands of people, like it is even possible to do that. Encouraging people not to stock up on supplies is a bad idea. Some of these people should be stocking up on supplies and taking precautions.

The worst that could happen is that they stock up and don't need to. Then they have food for a while, some bleach and disinfectants to clean towels and hands, and maybe they have cough medicine for next time they get sick.

There is no reason not to stock up. There is no reason not to take this virus seriously and to take precautions. Just because you're middle aged doesn't put you in the clear.

1% to 3% of old people dying will have serious consequences on everyone's life, even if it's indirect. Even 20% of the working class getting sick will have major effects on your daily life. Even China shutting down production is going to have a big effect on your life. It's going to create a chain of events that is going to take a long time to recover from and I'm sure prices on most all goods will go up significantly soon just because of a lack of supply and high demand.

Be safe and take this seriously please!

I read things letting me think the USA are ill-prepared and reacting to their starting coronavirus bloom.

A girl on twitter exposed how much she did to get tested for the illness while showing symptoms and never managed to achieve anything. Cases are growing.

I'm definitely stocking for 2 weeks quarantine now. I want to be able to be comfortable not getting out of my appartment for 2 weeks, Shouldn't be hard, i know depression.

Tariffs were supposed to affect business
I work somewhere that gets semi truck loads of chinese stuff every day.
Salespeople even put little notes in their signatures about tariffs would be causing big changes soon expect price increases.
Never happened

Before that the changes to truckers max per day operating hours was going to fuck everything up. It didn't

Now corona is going to fuck chinese exports up? Probably not enough for anyone but an import manager to even notice

Because nursing homes have the infrastructure and experience to isolate patients, as they regularly do for e.g. norovirus. This is not to say it's a fool-proof plan; nursing homes are struggling with staff shortages and obviously bringing sources of infection close to the more vulnerable elements of the population is inherently risky, but you could make exactly the same argument for trying to isolate patients in hospitals - staff shortages + compromised immune systems are omnipresent there as well.

BTW agree with you that the containment of the virus in our town is quite unlikely. Personally I think the cat's already out of the bag here.

I think Dutch policy at this point is similar to that in other places; try to stall the spread a little bit in order to buy time, but based on the perception that wide-scale spread is inevitable. There also seems to be a balancing act going on between safety/containment on the one hand and economic+social impact on the other hand. This is not discussed very openly in the media, but what I see of the policies and how they are communicated, this does seem to be the underlying reasoning. There seems to be a strong tendency to try and prevent a societal lockup while maintaining some form of responsiveness to containing the outbreak. You can debate what the optimum for that balancing act is and it seems to me that your personal preference is to err more to the side of containment than that of the Dutch authorities, but in the end, I feel it's a fairly random choice that's being made either way.

Also keep in mind that the rather crass form of containment that was practiced in China just isn't feasible in Europe. Our society is too different from the Chinese to make that work. I also have my doubts about the effectiveness of the attempts at containment in northern Italy for the same reason, especially given the fact that the majority of the cases in The Netherlands can directly be traced back to exactly that region.

What I'm thinking is that the Chinese have simply created killzones where they hardly do any testing so it seems like their graph has flattened out but nobody klnows just how many are laying sick in their homes.

Perfect storm, a guy coughing up carnaval from cafe to cafe and on wednesday [day aftter carnaval ends] checking into a hospital cause he near collapsed and now we hear theres been others too. We're going to be a disease pocket and with it spreading 3-6x as fast as flu, try to keep tabs on that. Its gonna run away in our town. Us Orcs be fucked and that we be.

I'm bugged in for a few weeks to see what come of it, I have the luxury to do that, I was prepping as early as the start of January, my prep's finished.
Pays off to have a spirit guide, he chimed me in that it would hit home soo and in January at the first news said. "Drop everything you're doing and prioritize this." Well, given we're the Dutch Wuhan, right on the mark.

Well, I think there's quite a few Wuhans going on right now and we're not the only ones to be brewing up that perfect storm. All I know is that I simply cannot afford to lock myself up for weeks - work needs to be done, and all I can do is take some basic precautions. I.e. no superfluous meetings or traveling (but I dont like those anyway, so not much change there) and implementing a no-handshake protocol in meetings I do have to attend. Also openly discussing this with the people I work with and everyone is pretty alert and sensible about it so far.
In the meantime I'm recovering from my common cold (or was it corona? Who knows eh?) and fortunately improving daily without having beel debilitatingly ill. Let's keep our fingers crossed (and well washed).

Funny you should say that, I had a common cold for 3 weeks

Might be a good idea to take a supermarket delivery right from the truck so you are at once stocked up with a higher guarantee of getting what you need because they set it aside for the deliveries.  That, or visit a store at 8 in the morning when its just been stocked and not many people are there yet.

I recommend 2 weeks to a month minimum, but I'm much ahead of that. I could do several months, but not happily.

Attached the protocol for home quarantine if you havent already seen it.

The bird is the word, swing is the thing, and home quarantine will likely be the way you get treated if you get it.

"if your grandmother or any other member of the family should die whilst in the shelter, put them outside, but remember to tag them first for identification purposes."
We can hope it won't get to be a "bring out ye dead" scenario, I myself expect society on some level to carry on with water, electric and gas services upheld.

Spiritual blurb: This is one of those typical Mother Nature things: creating New Life (novel coronavirus) that poses a threat to the species thats the #1 threat to the ecosystem. Galvanizing us not through a world war against each other, but a world war against an external threat, a virus, that evolved in the filth of the BIG MESS we make of things.

There is a BIG lesson in there: Getb your heads out of your asses and don't let the animals you eat live in there too.

Remember EARTHLINGS?

All that filth and obscenity and perverting of how animals should live and die has now spawned a virus with OUR name on it. Thats how Gaia operates. not woo woo vanilla scent candles but simply: the greater you violate the species barrier, the sooner a virus evolves that crosses between the species. Pure logic, pure evolution.

COVID is Greta Thunberg with an UZI: "Go green or I'll END YOU."
