The second modern wave of psychedelic use is mental health. Where’s the forum?
    #26514125 - 03/03/20 08:00 AM (3 years, 11 months ago)

In the 1960’s it was basically all about enlightenment. Why has this website not caught on to the fact this second wave that started a few years ago is on mental health? Healing trauma?  I understand that there were many I’ll-conceived experiments in horrid settings dating back to the 1930’s. But, it is making a comeback with a deeper understanding. I’ve Experimented in a safe loving environment four times in three months. I’ve gone through difficult yet beautiful experiences surrounding my traumatic childhood. But, I need a little more help with deciphering. So I located a psychedelic integration Psychologist to consult before and after my experiences. I see him next week, Why is there no forum specifically for those of us on this path?

I’m looking for a place where we can benefit from sharing our therapies. I can’t be the only person doing this scouring the web for others. My guess is that MANY are coming here, looking around and leaving after a few read posts. You might not be paying attention, the well being section is TOO broad. You’re not specifically indentifying a much ignored trend in psychedelics today, For people like me.

Example, this forum, titled “philosophy, sociologically, and psychology” is also too broad for where the future is going. Psychedelic integrative Psychotherapy in today’s environment deserves it’s own forum at the top, I dare say, 😄 I’m not a doctor, I’m not promoting anything. I just wish to point out to the powers that be, it might be time to adjust, the second wave is going to be a very big one. Not everyone can afford the therapy. But, we can share here and benefit those who can’t. That is, if they find it easily.

I’d be interested in hearing from a moderator to chime in.

I'm not sure what you're requesting, past what we already have. Physical and Mental Wellbeing is already fully kitted out to handle your topics, and is rich in the subject matter you discuss.

Perhaps you would like to see something like this pop up on your screen?

I moderate the P&MWB subforum too, and have done for many years, so for you to appear from nowhere and on the same day lament on how the community is not meeting your needs seems pretty unfair to what is a fantastic resource and community.

Not that I'm normally one to quote Biblical shit, but this does seem especially relevant to your concerns, IMO:

First cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

--------------------
Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not.

interestingly "enlightenment" and "mental health" are related
both are poorly comprehended.
maybe by considering what is meant we will find some answers.

unfortunately religious experience and enlightenment have spiritual rather than health connotations, but this may be a clue to the overlap with mental illness/health.

For example, when a tripper emerges from their experience, if they think they have been chosen by god to teach mankind, there is a problem.
scaling back the intensity of the convictions of personal revelation/oppression could be the key to all of this.

.    Part of the answer is very simple & everyone knows it already. What can be done anonymously ( assuming no accidental give aways ) on line, with non-professionals is very limited compared to what may be possible with a professional, one knows & trusts & who provides confidentiality; and has a reputation, and perhaps a particular expertise, & with whom a feeling of rapport may be developed.
.    The idea of anonymous group therapy, composed of many troubled individuals, with no moment to moment trained facilitator, sounds like a recipe, for wasting time, at the very best, & in a worst case scenario, making things worse for some members.
.    If one leaves out the goal of therapy and just wants to 'let one's hair down', even the local bar, may make possible a more intimate 'person to person' feel.

It seems as if you are trying to conflate discussion with distance counseling. I am a doctor in private practice and a public forum cannot be a venue for therapy. On Quora when I answer questions about dreams, I have a standard response for those who expect actual dream analysis from the disclosure of a few sentences of dream imagery. Anyone who responds can only be making stuff up, guessing, or projecting their own material onto the querier. Dream analysis requires a good deal more info: the emotional signatures of the dream-images, autobiographical data, current life situation, and ultimately the valence of the dream symbols (which first need to be 'amplified' by elaborating possibilities from myth, religion, folklore, fairytales) is determined by the dreamer. Same here with interpreting anecdotal reports of psychedelic experiences.

By the same token, discussion of psychedelically "occasioned" material, much of which arises from the unconscious, really needs to be processed by experienced individuals under the correct conditions. It's really not a good idea to listen to the public at large, solicited or unsolicited. I once brought my dermatology biopsy from the physician to his young receptionist who looked at the tissue in alcohol in a tube and volunteered, "Hmm, it looks like cancer." WTF?! Early 20s, pregnant girl with maybe a high school education thinks she should say things like that off the top of her head to patients? Well, it went to the histologist and it wasn't skin cancer. But this is the same kind of thing when having untrained individuals pontificating about your intimate psychological, psychospiritual experiences which should be confidential. I've treated misdiagnosed clients ill-affected by the bestowal of a clinical disorder which was not even accurate. You don't need strangers throwing around clinical terms they have no experience diagnosing or treating. And hey, you just got here and you want the administrators to construct a forum to meet your present interest? :wtf:

So called "mental health" is now a term that usually reflects biological disorders, abnormalities, neurological defects, and chemical imbalances that require drugs to correct. Are you refering to non-drug therapies, or only medication? These days most people want a diagnosis where they take a pill.

I don't get it. Narrowing down the forums structure due to trends and alike makes no sense to me. Imagine you could trip on suppositories. What would suffice forums wise ? Pics, experiences, terminology, how to's .... endless possibilities.

IMHO, the use of psychedelics was always connected to mental health. There's no need for trends to know of that. It's also connected to many others aspects of human life which also have all the trendy requirements. I mean, what's next ?
