Beginner thoughts on the state of this tub

Greetings fellows,
I posted before when dialing in this unmodified tub I've got inside this closet for some pointers and received some good help, thank you all for that.
The tub is now starting to pin but to my eyes it looks like it is very dry.
Birds eye view

corner of the tub, I'm seeing some coir here that looks very light colored and dry

a little bit closer in the same corner, some blue and yellow coloring

Some notes on methods used (this is my first run so I wasn't going for perfect, just trying to go through all the motions once) -pretty much starting from MS, inoculated agar with a syringe and did one transfer just to test my sterile technique -about 4800g coir wet to about 3100g colonized oats used for sub -using an unmodified sterilite 54q tub with lid flipped shoved in a closet with a curtain in front and fan blowing perpendicular to the entrance(see first pic) -using a 3500k fluorescent bulb on a 12/12 timer -taking lid off for a few hours a day for FAE
I'm still dialing in my search TEK (I think I need to select better wording or be more familiar with commonly used terms) but from what I've gathered it seems fruits don't like being misted. I've also read that if I have done everything right, the colonized sub should provide enough moisture to see these little guys to maturity.
What I am thinking is that the dry looking coir, the blue, and the yellow coloration would indicate a dried out sub. In addition to this, what I had initially thought was moisture on the surface started looking more like a blanket of the kind of slime you would expect a snail to leave behind. It's not easy to make out in the picture but it's there.
I feel I am dealing with a dry sub, which I plan on either dunking or bottom watering after searching some more, and a possible contam in the form of that blanket of shiny slime, which at this point, if it is, the boys and I have no choice but to ride it out and see what happens.
Hit me with thoughts, comments, or corrections on my conjecture, and I have nothing to offer you but my continued appreciation for this community.
Thanks for reading, everyone.

I think you’re correct, did you do any casing or top layer?

No, straight up coir and oats. Bod's Teks were the first thing I saw when I came here, and I figured the best way to learn is pick a method and get some experience. I've been reading a lot about the benefits of casing and I plan on trying it out vs an uncased tub next time since I've got a little extra room and I'll have something to clone from soon.

leave the lid on flipped and water after your first flush is what the tek says I think, taking the lid off completely isn’t part of any tek for any length of time that I have seen. Might be why it looks dry-

I tried leaving the lid off since Bod replied in his unmodified tub tek thread that he did this when he was home, unless I misinterpreted what he said. I'm certainly rethinking doing this because it's obviously not proving to be beneficial so far with my conditions.

Yeah leave the lid on but not latched lol
Also you shouldn’t see shrinking of substrate until after pinning so if there’s any space between the sub and the walls of the tub you need to water it

I was having some similar problems with my tub. I still have an active thread going over here while I try getting shit sorted out. If you feel like taking a look, maybe some of the ideas in there could be useful for your situation.

I noticed a lot of side pinning after posting, which is a good indicator of the sub shrinking, yes? I'm wondering if my eye for field capacity may have been off as well. I compared it to a video I think RR had referenced or posted that demonstrated what to look for and I felt semi-confident about my field capacity. I may play around with the couple bricks I have left to see how quickly they dry at more or less capacity.

I think I had actually come across your post before. It looks like we are in similar situations. My note taking habits are horrible but I'll PM you if you want to compare notes.

The side pinning means the surface of your tub is too dry and evaporating too quickly.

The biggest factor in Bods Tek and I know he has mentioned it somewhere is that results are going to vary depending on climate. Maybe I'm making this up, but if you live in a dryer place like up north in the middle of winter the air is drier, vs down south in summer the air will hold more mositure so the "Dialing" of tubs really has to do with location and season and how that effects the FAE of the air that does go into the tub. But yeah I guess if it looks dry mist it, if it doesn't, don't.

All the Bod tek threads are a mile deep now, but I'm 99% sure I came across the same post at some point. Regardless, it makes total sense. There's mornings where I wake up feeling freeze dried and dessicated because of the changes that come with Winter. Bod also warns on his monotub tek that beginners won't just be able to jump in and have it work flawlessly because there's a learning curve to bulk methods (paraphrasing). So here we all are getting acquainted with that damn curve!
@trevorcorey: Not sure how useful my own research would be since I'm still working at the "not fucking it up" part, but feel free to PM me. With any luck, maybe we'll be able to help each other out.

@trevorcorey hey, wondering where you are at with this issue? I am also in my first grow using Bods tek and am having the same problem. Thanks!
