Just a heads up to everyone a recent botanicals vendor I know was raided during a controlled delivery by homeland security, FBI, and the local narcotics task force for ordering MHRB that was declared as dye / soap making material for his shop from Brazil. He's being charged with about 30 kilos that they're classifying as 30 kilos of dmt rather then rootbark as always (sadly). This happened after customs did a random test and it came back as dmt under / around 1%
Just wanted to let everyone know to be safe, he's facing about 10 years and it's not his first case so he's not too likely to get it reduced. Didn't see anything in the news about it so just because we don't see people getting busted doesn't mean it's not happening.

Was he doing anything other than offering it as a botanical that would make them want to bust him? Was he somehow involved in anything sketchy that would draw their attention?

This kind of stuff scares me. I recently imported just a kilo of mhrb from Mexico and thank god it came but I was really nervous that jonny law could pull something like this. I can imagine that if they really wanted to look into why someone ordered 10+ kilos it could get ugly. I assume he is being charged federally? Yikes

Even if he was 100% just reselling rootbark and nothing else. The way the law is currently written rootbark can be considered "A mixture or preparation" so if they want to they can charge anyone with the full weight even if it only contains trace amounts.

A similar instance happened to a friend of mine in early 2019. The local drug task force attempted to deliver a package but it was obvious that they where not the delivery company. So the receiver refused the package. The state prosicutor declined to press charges so the case was handed over to a federal prosicutor. Who has been harassing my friend for over a year. He'll call his attorney and say something like "hey if you plead guilty well make sure the weight is only such and such which would put you in this bracket so you only recieve this many years". So now he has to wait 3 years and and some months until the statue of limitations is up. But its starting to become appearent that they dont have the time or evidence to make a case and they just want another guilty plea to up their conviction rate. Its so fucked up how its just a numbers game and that someone would be willing to destroy someones life just to make themselves look better and get that promotion.
