the mushroom mind

so I've been listening to Terence Mckenna for years now, and I'm finally at the point in my life where I have the opportunity to trip. so i've been reading a lot about the experience. One thing I started to notice is that on the 5g trip reports i don't hear the same sorts of things that Terence would say about the mushroom being a conscious logos, or the "other" manifest or something. maybe the reporters on here are just not disciplined enough in their shamanic technique. maybe i haven't looked long enough.
so my question: was terence full of shit as some claim? or will tripping in a "shamanic" way on 5g deliver the alien mind ?

No doubt.

What is your question exactly? Is it if you trip in a "shamanic" way, whatever that is, will you experience an alien mind at 5g?
I've no idea what that means TBH. My mind is already pretty alien at 5 g...
Anyway, welcome shroomery!

Welcome to the Shroomery. He's nice to listen to and all - but he is NOT you. Your experiences are YOUR experiences. He cannot tell you what to expect.
Go into your trip with YOUR full attention. Terrence does give good advice on always surrendering.. but don't expect anything he painted as one of your own.
You're an empty canvas.. you fill it with your art and colors. Don't feel like something wasn't accomplished because you didn't receive these "bulleted" points of what a "trip" is from someone you've never met and also, NOWHERE near the same brain chemistry.

"shamanic" as Terence described, it was somewhat of a sensory deprivation. eyes closed in quite darkness. empty stomach on 5g. apparently the mushroom is a conscious being and communicates to you easily in this way. as if it were a separate person.

Terrence was full of shit, entertaining for sure, but full of shit. He had a large vocabulary and talked of grand, esoteric ideas but take what he says with a grain of salt.

Mckenna did a lot to popularize psychedelics, which is great, but his actual ideas have always struck me as being utterly ridiculous. Especially when you delve into the background on which his based his thinking.
If you're tripping for the first time then you probably have no idea what you're in for and that's actually an amazing thing. By all means read up but keep an open mind and let yourself be open to the experience.
There's also been a lot more research and understanding of how effective the lower doses can be. Micro dosing can be an amazing and highly effective approach. Don't feel that you need to go straight to such a high dose in order to fully experience mushrooms. Start small and ease into it and you'll have a long and productive career as a psychonaut. Otherwise you might have an incredible uncomfortable experience that'll scare you off them for life.

I love Terrence McKenna. I don’t agree with 85% of what he says and time wave zero is kooky.
He is a very polarizing figure, both inside and outside of the psychedelic community. I am sure he would not want you to trip like he does, but instead to trip like you do. Taking the things he said with a grain of salt is good advice, he admitted to being off his rocker. I don’t think he meant everything he said to be taken as literally as some do. I think the self transforming dribbling basket balls stuff is confusing... but, so what? It’s not like Michael Polan has explained anything any better to popular culture at large. .
Maybe we should all stop having gurus and find our own paths?

The mushroom will communicate with you, only if you give them your full attention. Which is why the whole "silent darkness" thing was so popularized, especially by Terrennce - due to the little stimulation, the mushrooms are really able to give you complete seduction.
BUT - I've had many blissful experiences sitting by the river and hanging in my hammock on a fairly large dose with great music that I couldn't break into words if I even tried.
To each their own, whatever works for you, works for you. Don't feel restricted or obligated to do something because you feel like that's the "correct" way.
Go into it with an open mind and full on attention - and post back with what you've experienced. Happy tripping.

There is still and active meditation - it's impossible to claim one is somehow superior to the other.
You can climb a tree - the texture of the branches and the fine dust that comes from them; the beams of light breaking through the canopy, scattered and dancing on the rungs; the sharp snap of a twig, sharper in the muffled quiet of the thicket; and the great vistas when you've reached your summit, how familiarly different it all looks. You aren't thinking about the rules to climbing a tree or how someone else would do it - you're climbing a tree.
And you can meditate in a full lotus - the linear maintenance of your spine, from your neck to your coccyx; the mobility of the muscles and connective tissues in your legs and groin; the filling of your lungs and belly with deliberate action from your diaphragm; the infinite darkness behind your eyelids, always deeper than you can ever travel. If you're caught up thinking about superficial details about your world, you'll surely agitate the experience and defeat much of its purpose.
In whatever situation, So long as you're present, you're doing it right. Getting caught up in expectations and preconceptions only serves to diminish your being involved with what's happening.
This isn't to say you have to quiet your mind (per se), but you should concern yourself with what's in front of you. Not what was in front of some dude on drugs some decades ago.

There's a lot of great perspectives in this thread.
Drop all your expectations, eat the mushrooms, get comfy, don't panic...
McKenna loved to wax lyrical about psychedelics, but the reality is they are a much stranger creature than one who has not seen than they can possibly imagine. They are an infinite world of infinite possibilities with no similarities to anything that we know in this dimension. Just having an open mind and an open heart is enough to see what you need. There's no voodoo required.

I cant stand Terrence
His voice cuts right through me, ive never been able to watch more then 5 minutes of his stuff. Dennis is alot of fun to listen to and actually makes sence to me.
No one can really tell you what your experience will be like man.
Id reccomend to start at 1-2 grams dry and see how you feel man. Learn how the mushrooms interact with you.
You can always eat more shrooms later. 5grams is really alot if your not experienced with them.
Welcome to the shroomery bro

Yeah man, he's like listening to a dying cat that's done too many drugs. I've never tolerated him well either.

Been watching “unabomber:in his own words” on Netflix. Dude sounds almost exactly like Terrence. Really complex and weird ideas, uses fancy words with a very similar intonation of voice. Kinda creepy.

Unabomber was really good. He did have the same views. Literally sounded and almost looked like Terrence
And I believe anyone who has had a deep experience knows exactly what they're talking about. I'm a hypocrite towards myself when I trip. I know we're all pretty much walking cyborgs. But when the trip fades I'm right back to it.
Luckily though.. I'm very connected with the outdoors. I do backpacking trips quite often. Very peaceful to get away from it all. They balance each other out. I wouldn't want to completely give up my phone.. nor would I want to live off the land.
Both are well in moderation! There's no stopping the technology evolution. It will be the end of social skills one day. Especially when the day it comes that driving your own car will be illegal and we're wearing our thoughts on our sleeves.
I rather find cures for diseases and alternatives to using up our natural resources and cleaning our oceans than a faster phone. Better cameras.. ect.
And honestly.. do we really need fucking 5g

Well out on a limb here, and breaking shroomery tradition; I think Terence was a legend! I just wish I’d known about him in the 80s; could have saved me a lot of existential distress!!
To be honest though, I’ve never been one to do what other people tell me. And having done ridiculous doses of mushrooms 30 years ago, there’s nothing Terence could tell me anyway. But he does give you lots of “food for thought”.
You’ve all got to remember that terence’s experiences were 40 years ago, so if you listen to him in that context, he’s quite deep.
I’ve tried some of the stuff he talks about, like asking mushrooms to solve a problem, or answer a question.
Just wish I had the guts to do a full trip in silent darkness. I’ve got as far as a full trip in darkness, but only ever about 15 minutes (during the peak) without music. Not sure I could cope with 5g in silence just yet, though it’s on the bucket list!
Let’s re-read some of our posts in 40 years and see what we think of ourselves (though I’ll be long gone in 40 years lol).
Mush love peeps, DJ Ed

I watched that and I must say, I did not expect that voice to come out of that head..
