Good to spawn?

Hey guys! It’s been a while since I’ve been able to do anything due to my old living situation, but now I have a new place and I’m balls to the walls to get some growth. These jars look healthy in my eyes (shook 2-3 days ago) what do you think. They look allot less white in the pictures than in person. I won’t say that it looks overly strong but it does have rizomorphic growth that is slightly visible in pictures but a justice isn’t done from the pics. They look similar to my old GT grows just want a second opinion. No signs of contams to the naked eye (green, yellow, black) in the jars just not 100% you guys are much more experienced than I. Thanks for the responses nice to be back talking to you guys!!!!!

They look good to go. If there's no visible contams then the best way to check is from the smell when you shake them. If it smells like mushrooms it's good. Anything else you should probably chuck em.
The quick recovery from the last shake is a good sign though. Good luck with them!

Thanks a bunch! I’m gonna let them go for a few more days to let the other jars I have to catch up! Last grow I tried to rush and failed epically will not make that mistake again. I’d say by Friday they’ll be in an unmodified tub with c/v substrate!

Was it on the wet side from the start, or did it start “sweating” later on?

Definitely on the wet side originally the oats didn’t shake freely after sterilization ( if you know how to fix that please help your boy out). Maybe 20% of the moisture came later on but I suspect that is from the heating of the mycelium in the jar. What do you think?

Sounds good. If it was dry at first, I’d say you got bacteria galore.
But yeah, spawn at 100%, should be good

So the tek I used was bods oat tek. Boil oats for 45 minutes, dry oats for about an hour (I did multiple hours on a towel on my dining room table still was wet to the touch?) and pressure cooked for 2 hours.

This is a different run of jars but look about the same as the last run that’s now colonized. My guess is the condensation is from the jars heating and cooling with the added heat from the mycelium growth. My girlfriend tends to shut the heat in that room off when I’m not here and I turn back on when I realize it’s off. Unless you would say otherwise that’s where I’d say the condensation is from. It’s cold where I’m at so if the heat is off the temps drop pretty low from 80 to about 65-70. The colonized jars are at 77 degrees dead on on all 8 jars on my infrared temp gun. What do you think bacteria or temperature changes? There are no visible signs of contam and they smelled like mush when I shook them a few days ago?

I don’t fucks wid oats, so wait for someone else on that one...
Even if it’s bacterial, you can still spawn it. The yield will be reduced but you still get mushrooms 🤷🏻♂️

Word I shall keep you updated! What do you prefer to oats? I use they because they are easily acquired at tractor supply.

I use WBS. No simmer, no boil, just soak, rinse, dry.
I get mine for like $15/30lb bag

What brand do you use? Also could you send over a tek? I’ve seen allot but I’d like to see what you’re working with. To me the oats were the easiest method but my buddy always used wbs.

I’m not using any one tek, not to say that I’m doing anything original lol. It’s too easy to call a tek:
1. Fill your jars exactly 1/2 full of WBS. Add water. 2. Wait 24 hours. 3. Rinse with hot water. 4. Lay out on the counter to dry (on top of an old towel). 5. Wait 30 min.
Presto perfect moisture content

As for the brand, they vary state-to-state. You need anything with these ingredients: red millet, white millet, sunflower seed, cracked corn. These exact ingredients, but with no additives like oils and vitamins. I like Wagner’s brand best. Very clean. I should mention that I would use straight red millet if I could find it, but it’s rarely around. WBS is the next best thing IMO.

90min at 15psi will get ‘er done, but I only got a shitty Tefal PC atm, and it gets 14.5psi max so I let I go for a full 2h.
Just don’t skimp on the foil covers if you’re gonna PC jars for 2 hours, or the filters will get wet. Otherwise, there’s no harm to it except the wait.

I’ve been using 2 Phillips screwdriver sized holes in my lids flipped with a sfd in between the lid and the band wrapped in foil as tight as possible and pcing for 2 hours the sfds seem to stay dry, a droplet of water here and there but nothing too bad. What size GE holes do you use. My pc is a presto 23qt

Oh I modify mine a bit more, to save on filters mostly. That’s red silicone holding the pieces in place. 1 1/4in hole.

Is there a trick to the rtv on my LC jars I’ll usually get one that holds and one that just doesn’t stick after a 20 minute pc cycle I do those on plastic lids though. I plan on trying agar again once I can afford a flow hood because I am very bad at SAB procedure. What I’ve been doing since I started is a crapshoot I know but it has worked mor than 50% of the time so I can’t bitch. Hopefully that will go up with the flow hood. I like the idea of the SHIP on the grain lids
