Most of my plates look stringy and rhizomorphic so when i get plates like the ones in the pic below with the "fuzzy" type growth i always wonder why they are like this
So why is this plate like this whats it indicative of?

looks fine, if it's not super slow and it's clean I don't worry about it looking pretty it just needs to be effective

Just trying to understand the difference between the bright white strand like growth and the off-white fur/fuzz like growth, if there is any?
Thank you

It's genetics. Some cells become rhizomorphic, some become tomentose. Apparently there are some factors that might trigger rhizomorphic growth, and there is some agreement that rhizomorphic is better for fruiting, but I believe the jury is still out on that.
If you're really worried, transfer until you get rhizomorphic, then cold store, but those guys look like some great cultures.

thanks for the feedback, i enjoyed the detail. i will definitely research further the information you've provided as to get a better grasp on the many various characteristics of agar plate contents.
the plate from the pic im going to cold store, its golden teacher, but just until these Ecuador plates come along in the background.
If i get a similar looking plate from the eq. im going to run it side by side in various ways against the gt plate and observe.
Some of my other plates have gone to LC and some Oat jars (first time doing oats, long time wbs user) and so far the oats have me worrying but we shall see.

Is that a clone culture? Looks pretty damn isolated for a t2 (very radial and scarcely rhizomorphic) to me but the lighting isn’t very good on those pics. It looks fine either way, like cron said as long as it’s clean. If your worried about it just Noc up 1qt of grain or even better a bed jar and fruit it while making more transfers, but I would grain that culture any day.

How long did that take to grow out like that?
