If you have a mycelium ridden wood chip pile does that mean it already has myc in it? If so why add spores? I did it by getting a small amount of the myc from one patch in the wild, then growing out with some cardboard, then planting in garden patches. Go to soilworx and get their bags of eucy mulch (eucalyptus mulch) and mix that through with some pine chips, they love it. Water it all summer and by next year you will be where I am at now! 9 pins growing strong from one patch I did (would be 12 but 3 deaths from slugs)

Thanks for the tip! It’s got Mycelium here and there. Though there’s still a lot of uncolonised wood chips. But rather than letting them go to waste, I’m just spreading the spores to new beds and hoping something will come of it without really trying to put the effort in to cultivate them first. As I already have a few fruiting patches around the garden.
The sterility needed behind cultivating spores into myc seems a little tedious. Which is why I haven’t attempted anything like that in the past. Though now would be a good time to start experimenting.. I suppose it would be more fruitful to cultivate the spores into myc on cardboard first. Before adding them to garden beds. Might try somthing like This next time. Or get some help from my Cubensis growing buddy who had started myc from some sub prints I’ve given them last year.

Yeah mate. I mixed up mushrooms water mollasus. Let it sit for 48hrs then sprayed a couple spots.
Last year the spot at the end of my street started to produce. And just today my mate found 100 amongst his plants.
Very easy just patience

Very nice, might give it a shot. ~ Stumbled onto another new patch of subs today;
                                        Wanted to take better photos but I found these at the last minute, my phone was dying & the sun was setting. I'd say about 85% of the spots that I know of in my immediate area are still asleep. I feel its going to be a big year indeed.. ~ Here's a 9 day photo time lapse of an Amanita growing;
         Just awesome! ~ Also today I've learnt that I'm not allergic to Bull ant stings but they certainly hurt!

Hey Guys!
New to mushie hunting but want to learn as much as I can! Drop some tips down below if you have any, I’ve done lots of research but want to learn more. Has the season started? I’m assuming not yet because we haven’t had much rain.

On the contrary, the season is well and truly under way. Maybe another month or two before things peak.. ~ Here are a few more subs I've spotted today while gardening.. Three waking up in a known spot;
   And 5 more that I came across in a new patch towards the edge of the property in a grassy clearing before the start of a eucalypt forest;
      Another bull ant trying to protect this mushroom from me ;
 Little habitat shot for the new spot;

Hey, the season has well and truly started.
I posted all the advice that come to mind at the top of page 5 of this thread. Feel free to check it out.
One thing I forgot to mention is: If you use a dehydrator to dry your mushrooms, once they mushrooms are 100% dry, let them cool off until they're at room temperature. 20 minutes should be long enough. This is because if you put hot dry mushrooms inside a glass jar they'll fog up the inside of the jar which may cause the mushrooms to spoil if you then seal the glass jar.
Good luck

Wow Great Pictures on this page Nick! Love those caramel topped ones <3
Here is the results of a night harvest. They are very small but they were open Caps so fair game I say. This area has around 4 patches and I have to really get under some difficult plants. But without them there wouldnt be enough moisture. But this plant can grow quite strong and dense. Here is is during the day time

Third season hunting, finally created an account. Eastern suburbs, half hour from CBD.
Went for a walk for about an hour through my local reserve. Have had mixed results in this spot in previous seasons; usually had better luck in other similar areas. After the past few days of cold rains I noticed all the inactives in the garden and figured it was time to have a better look.
After finding hundreds of interesting inactives, I finally found a jackpot in a shady patch of mulch. Didn’t weigh but probably found 30-40g of mature subs. At least as many more pins for me or the next lucky bugger to find the spot.
Didn’t get photos but will take some snaps next time.
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that takes the time to post such high quality info year after year, and put up with all us noobs posting the same questions again and again. I love hike this community goes beyond the search for psychoactives and fosters a love of mycology and biology in general.
Good luck and happy hunting!

This will be my first season! I'm in Gippsland, 3 hours out of Melbourne, and went for a walk down to the park and the wetlands behind them. Lots of cool varied species but no subs, I might try again there on a colder/wetter day but I'm not sure where to look next!

Just the babies I left today. Didn’t even make it back to the patch I went to yesterday. This could be a 2kg season just from my local area.

Just check damper, shadier areas with the right terrain until you find what you're looking for and/or wait there weeks and re-check where you've already been.
Gippsland is supposed to be really good for finding subs.
Good luck

Checked another park today and found approximately 280 grams of fresh subs in a about 40 minutes. Could have found a lot more but I had to head home.
Here are some photos I took...

Hello gentlemen. Does anyone have experience hunting in the more rural parts of Victoria? I'm speaking of Bendigo, Kangaroo Flat, etc. At about what time is typical for you to start finding subs?
Last year I made finds very late in the season, in a spot I checked frequently. I believe it was sometime in June that they actually started appearing.
Is June a similar time for you guys? Or have you found them earlier?

Thanks Apoyador!
Killer finds Painkiller!  ~ I decided to snoop around the tree line from the habitat shot of my previous post and found another larger patch of about 20-30 subs. Here are some of the better photos of the lot;

The furthest from Melbourne city I've found subs is Ballarat and the Grampians. Ballarat is really good, the Grampians a thousand times more.
There'll be subs in the dampest, shadiest areas with the right terrain now, and as the weeks progress and we get less sun each day, subs will pop up in more exposed areas.
More often than not I've found June to be the peak of the season, just make sure you go hunting before the 21st because I've found the season to slow right down after the 21st.
These past few days I've had to trouble finding subs. I know enough areas that I could find subs all day every day from now until the peak of the season. It never gets boring.

Alot were very mature almost fully dried so I'm guessing they were there for awhile! So happy total fresh weight was over 1kg!
