no luck for subs, but found a bunch of gorgeous amanitas, at varying stages of growth! But am i looking in the wrong place? will subs grow near amanitas? (newbie here)
this was in a park in the north east of Melb. i went around 10:30am on Saturday (perhaps a little too late?)

Lots of subs to be found, some are long and some are round. some are old, and dried and faded, others fresh, wet and shaded. Caramel caps within the grass, calling to you as you pass. 'Hello friend, please take me home, me + you = your mind blown.'
Haha, fantastic finds and photos people. Particularly outstanding photos samemould, what a beautiful whistler to encounter while foraging!
You're right Nickoloxious - it's certainly in full swing!
Had a lovely walk along our 'mushroom circuit' yesterday and came home with many a cute treasure that inspired the above poem...

Hi all - loving (and feeling oh so jealous) seeing all your successful hauls!
I am a newbie and see many people finding subs out in reserves/national parks, and wanted some advice as to whether I should expect to be able to find subs closer to the city in the inner suburbs (broadly speaking: glen iris/kew/caufield).
To be clear, not asking for locations - just want to know if I am wasting my time searching through woodchips at my local park, or if I should take a day trip to somewhere further out of the city.
Thanks

It should be possible to find them (i'm a little familiar with glen iris and there are a few reserves around there I would look at if I lived near), but there are so many more people that it's likely a high competition area. Lots of pickers, I guess.

inner-city and the suburbs are perfect for subaeruginosa, concentrate on landscaping that uses woodchips not bark mulch especially if irrigation is present.

Subs would be present in all three suburbs, just need to find the right spot. I've found subs in Glen Iris and Kew before

It take time to identify them for the first time. Once you manage to identify them, then it get easier the next time round.
A balance diet for me consist of some fungus and some protein...

Silly question, maybe, but if you find a patch of pins and there's no real rain forecast for a few days, would it help (or hurt) to soak in some water from a bottle or something? Tap vs filtered/rain water?

Should make no/minimal difference between rain and tap water. A lot of people water their patches from tap filled bottles when their is no rain forecast. Keep in mind that rain is usually consistent moisture where one watering from a bottle won’t soak into the ground and have as long lasting effects as rain, so for a proper impact you’d have to visit the patch a fair bit. Definitely Not a bad idea to see how they go
Better than picking the pins themselves.... noticed people have been pretty greedy with destroying patches for others by picking every last pin lately.

Well i've got about 3 patches sorted on a decent walk now, so I guess I might cruise by and water on the regular. Cheers.

Long time lurker, had to join as I have no one to share my excitement with. What a season it has been this year! I've had finds even when I haven't been looking. found about 200g wet while out for a stroll this morning then another 100g when I stopped for lunch at a random park. Loving it!

Lots of other interesting specimens out there too...

Look at this chunky Boi,don't know what it is but it's one of the biggest i've seen. Cap was over 300mm easy

Thanks for your advice everyone re finding subs in the suburbs :p I'll keep checking my local areas and hope I get lucky (even if I feel super self conscious of looking like a crazy person foraging around wood chip piles in public parks/space... haha)
