Last time i went hunting, all i found were these species. I literally found thousands growing in one spot, couldn't find any subs though. I read somewhere its a good sign finding these inactives, but I'm not too sure.

I have the Kogan, it does a good job.
40c is the lowest setting and from memory 75c is the top, they’re really handy to have in the kitchen anyway, I make a lot of venison jerky with mine, another good thing to have is a vacuum sealer, I bought a FoodSaver vacuum sealer from Kmart for $119, I’ve dehydrated, powdered, vacuum sealed and frozen all my shrooms

nice shots samemould!
Had a look around the pine today; a bunch of fun foraging in a different habitat amongst such a wide variety of fungi! Plenty of subs about once we got the hang of the new environment. Plenty of other folk foraging for edibles - found a couple ourself.
It seemed like the flourishes amongst the pine were smaller, but more consistent. Made for a lovely Sunday walk. How have others experience been hunting in pine plantations vs woodlands?

saffron milk cap!

Keep up the great finds people!

Howdy I know this post goes against forum rules, but I'm desperate atm. You can burn the post, but please don't ban me! I'm wanting to try shrooms out, and have been reading up alot around this site. Awesome site, lots of great info and people. I'm planning on starting my first grow soonish, started collecting supplies etc. Lots of good help from people here. I've been out hunting the last couple of weeks, but not really had any luck and the ones I've found have been ID'd here but no cigar. What I'm after is a rough idea from anyone a successful location of a patch. I'm only after enough to try, so only a small amount. I'm not going to clean out or destroy a patch, nor am I going to broadcast the patch location. I will also use a bit towards my first grow. I'm in SE burbs. Again - if you can help a guy out it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Chris

Try hunting in areas where it's unlikely others have been. So out front of businesess, and in the woodchiped areas beside busy roads would be great places to check. Lift the sides of bushes and check there. You'll find them.

In SE suburbs and can't find anything? Finding it hard to sympathise.
Grab a bike so you can cover multiple suburbs in a day, just focus on woodchip instead of spending 2 hours in a tiny radius

Yep - I know It seems crazy from all the threads on here. I have walked 10km in both directions along the creek trails/parks w/o any luck. I've even rode the trails into the city (30km) I'm not looking for sympathy either - I'm just after a little help - if possible.
I also know what I asked is against the rules, and again I'm not looking for go to the spot marked with an 'X' I have no issues with hunting - I quite enjoy the walk (and so does the pooch) I'm just having a hard time in my area.
I'll def keep hunting

Yeah exactly what Painkiller and Blackzetsu said.
Grab a bike, ride around looking for patches of woodchip ~ if you see some mushroom activity have a good poke around, but don't spend heaps of time in one spot if you aren't finding anything. Bike/walking tracks close to a creek or river with woodchip garden beds and eucalyptus trees are a good one. Don't get disheartened, keep at it and you'll stumble across a spot on your own and you'll feel so hyped!
The feeling of finding a new spot doesn't get old for me
Good luck!

Thanks all. I'll def keep at it. I understand that patches are sacred and no one wants to broadcast their spot. Nor do I want to come across as lazy. Any patch I find, I'm not going to clear it out otherwise no one else can enjoy the find, and more can be left to spawn and grow.
Once I find some, then I'll know what I'm looking for/at. I think that's where I'm finding it hard.

It's really popping off out there at the moment!!
Went for a casual stroll to stretch the legs, not anticipating to really look for or find any shrooms. But of course once you start scanning it's difficult to stop and not 2 minutes out the door we find this guy, and a few pins, growing in a garden bed;

A few minutes down the road and another sub growing out of some pine bark tipped us off to a very promising spot - lots of pins, will have to return in a bit;

I love the difference in the morphology of the two different subs above. So interesting how they vary like that.
Further along on our afternoon walk we spot two more patches previously unbeknownst to us. We couldn't believe our luck, we weren't even out for a forage! A friendly bloke out for a run said hello and informed us of another spot to check out which was super nice - gotta love the community spirit this time of year. We decided to check one of our known patches (it was faring well) and as it was beginning to quiet down in the park had a little more of a thorough look in the scrub around it...whaddyaknow the gf spots a beauty of a patch!! Plenty of matures ripe for the picking and lots of healthy pins shooting through the leaf litter;

It was just such a lovely, unexpectedly successful walk around the local area. It's really nice out there at the moment as we head into winter - heaps of subs hidden in plain sight. I've really been enjoying reading and posting on the forum this year, such a great community. Happy hunting everyone!

I went out to the pine plantations NW of Melbourne today looking for edibles. Picked fairly clean over the weekend but I found enough for a feed.

I certainly had a hard time finding any subs. It seemed like all of the small mushrooms had exactly the same coloured cap, and I didn't find any significant flushes. Ended up with a handful taken from a fairly large area. Definitely great fun to examine and photograph the many other species, but I wouldn't recommend it for yields, especially considering how much is going on in the suburbs.
Happy hunting!

Ive found that the pine plantations tend to have very small clusters of subs compared to bushland/ urban subs, worst part to the pine plantations is the wide range of lookalikes I tend to find more compared to the other spots, very good for finding amanita muscaria though.
