Planning for a monotub need some advice
    #26511543 - 03/01/20 03:00 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Hey everyone,

I am trying to get a monotub going and I need to figure out the most appropriate method for knocking up my grains. I just finished up my first PF cycle, but never really got a chance to take spore prints because I stupidly never looked into how to take them. I do have some leftover syringes that I didnt use last cycle. I had originally planned on doing agar and actually have some plates in the fridge already prepared from a previous disastrous attempt, but there are only 8 plates and if I can help it I'd like to refrain from getting more until I can afford some borosilicate because I see it as a massive waste. I looked into LC, but most things I have read said making LC with a syringe is no good because there is a high risk of contam and the only other way to make it is with agar. Are there any other reliable methods for knocking up grains that I am missing or do I have to just suck it up and buy the plastic dishes?

Agar agar agar. Buy 500 for $85 online. Will last you forever if you're just getting into the hobby.

Yes, LC with a syringe is pretty much impossible unless you can guarantee the spore syringe is sterile (you can't)

If you have 8 unused plates just shoot a drop of syringe spore solution and streak it. C10 has a great write about it.
