Adult Music

What are your grown up songs?  You know, those songs you hear that make you go, "omg this is grown up music".

For some reason David Gray leaves this impression on me.  He has this distinct sound that makes me thhink, "This man has his shit together.  People that listen to him also have their shit together."

Ya dig?

Jazz, especially classic stuff.

John Tropea - "Muff"  (1975)

John Tropea "Dreams"

--------------------
Don't worry about me, I've got all that I need. And I'm singing my song to the sky

You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by

I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me

I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

Music is flavor, what resonates with you. You could be any age and like any style of music. I don't understand what makes music "adult" ?

i would argue that as time goes on your musical tastes should evolve and you can more easily discern crappy, teenager music from adult music. pop music is enjoyed by people of all ages, but i think it is mostly kids music. thats my opinion

classical and jazz are good examples of adult music because the listener is not looking for catchy hooks or simple, sing-a-long chorus lines.

I grew up listening to jazz and classical.

I know what you mean there's a lot of "teen" ir music and stuff or music directed at specific younger audiences.

Not really a fan of Jazz tbh.  Especially freeform jazz.  It sounds like someone let a bunch of 2 year olds into a room with some musical instruments and just recorded what happened.  What do you call one wrong note played in a song?  A mistake.  What do you call more than one consecutive wrong notes in a song?  Jazz.

I do, however, dig whatever style of Jazz that's in the intro to this YouTube show.  It's smooth af and I dig it.

I'm not a fan of really abstract technical sounding jazz. Has to be stuff where the soul of the core tune comes though, and the improvisation enhances it.

One of the best musical experiences I've had tripping was watching some Japanese jazz fusion, specially this crazy group Dimension.

Here is Dimension playing with another amazing fusion band T Square:

T-Square & Dimension - Live Concert In Korea [Full Live]

Skip to 20:10 for the part with both bands together, the first 20 minutes are just T Square.

DIMENSION - Se.Le.Ne, Beat #5 (Live 2012 ~20th Anniversary~)

DIMENSION - Live in HuaHin International Jazz Festival 2018 (Full Concert)

Something about this style of fusion I find incredibly mentally stimulating while simultaneously uplifting, makes it perfect tripping music. Sat around with some friends having great discussions for hours.

Their guitarist is an absolute beast. And the interplay between musicians is incredible. Their saxophonist is crazy as well, the whole band is amazing really. Their keyboardist has played with some really great western musicians as well.

Dimension has like 40+ albums or something crazy, they play an incredibly eclectic mix of jazz from smooth/funky jazz to super heavy shredding that sounds like some hard rock or prog metal.

You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by
