Hello all, this is my first time posting. I’ve been studying up on psilocybin for about three months, bought books on how to grow them and how to use them to help with certain things (depression, anxiety, ptsd) and so on. My dilemma is I work on the pipeline and I’m always on the road and don’t know anyone or anywhere I can find them. I’m about thirty minutes south of Houston Tx. I’ve been looking in fields everywhere I get a chance but nothing. Is there anyone that can help me out and point me in the right direction to find them. It’s really discouraging knowing that mushrooms can probably help me with things and not being able to get them. If this post isn’t allowed I apologize but I’m really desperate. Thanks.

Be patient but also try to find out when it's the time for them to come out. Mushrooms (of any type) have a very short season. Winter is just ending. This is not the best time of the year to find mushrooms. If you want to grow them, they don't require much attention, except when they fruit. You may want to study their habitat and begin identifying where they could appear (cow patties if you can access fields where cattle graze). That way, by the time they appear you will already know a few places where you can find them.
Good luck and welcome to the shroomery

You can definitely find some cubes if you stay dedicated they grow wild in TX and are fairly common. You can start a small grow using shoeboxes for less than 50$ if you pinch pennies. Could have mushrooms in about 6 weeks

I’ve looked into the pef tek method but haven’t seen the shoebox one.

Check out the cultivation forum to be sure, there are some very knowledgable folks there. But at a guess, I’ve done pf tek, but rather than fruit, you crumble the cakes into substrate (boiled vermiculite and coir would do) and put those trays / shoeboxes into the sgfc (I bought a stack of aluminium trays from amazon, the ones you get with take-always). You will get a larger harvest than just fruiting the cakes alone.

You are most definitely in the right place to learn to cultivate your own mushrooms. From my join date to now - I've learned how to clone, clean cultures, cultivate mushrooms and all of that good stuff.
You catch on pretty quickly depending on how much it interests you. A lot of us that joined here had no idea how to do so at the beginning either.

I know all the different strains can be a little overwhelming, but in the end they're almost all the same species. You really can't go wrong picking out any cubenesis. I would recommend you stay away from any penis envy spores until your a little more experienced, but pretty much any other strain of cubensis is fair game. My recommendation would be to pick up some golden teachers. Also its usually best not to mention a vendor in the context of cultivation. Most sponsors with give you a good deal if you mention the shroomery though.

Try and get your hands on liquid culture, if you search around you can find a vendor

Liquid cultures aren't legal in most places. Be weary of anyone selling them. Especially if you are in a country where active mycelium is illegal.

You can buy “mycelium-free” liquid cultures which you then inject from. A spore syringe, but this can be relatively expensive. So make up your own LC (basically 4% dextrose and light malt extract in water, sterilised, then inoculated from spore syringe.)
You’ll get much more mycelium then for inoculating spawn......
Good luck DJ Ed

Here in the US they are illegal but many shops still sell them. I know a few vendors that have agar plates. Realistically spore syringes could get you in trouble too, in a courts eyes I doubt they would be on your side, spore syringes are drug paraphernalia. Most the stuff at headshops could be charged as drug paraphernalia the law looks the other way tho.

When using the pf tek cakes and you have 4 inoculation points on the lid how much do you inject in each point? I’ve watched many videos but no one says how many cc’s for each one. TIA

1/4 cc per hole. Some will be more some will be less. I always have one where it gets tough to push and it get 3/4.
