Off white vs fluffy white
    #26509268 - 02/29/20 05:58 AM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Have two monotubs about a week into mixing with substrate and setting in med tubs.  Both PE.

Both colonized very quickly and seem poised.  However, one has a slightly greyer appearance while the other is fluffy white.  I used less substrate in the grey-er one.  Everything smells cool, no socks or rotten smell in either.

I lightly misted 3% H2O2 just now.

Should I be fanning more?  Or is the darker one with less substrate just catching up to her sister?  The colonization was rapid, full, and looks happy to my noob eye.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is greyish PE

Vs.

White fluffy PE

And

This is GT tub which looks identical to the white PE tub

(Im wondering if I maybe mixed up what tub was which....hmmm...two PE and one GT.  Didnt label cause I figured the fruit would be easy to tell)

Just leave it alone....it looks great. Overreacting (spraying it with peroxide) will ruin it.

Before you start...Do you have a Pressure Cooker and a Dehydrator? I highly recommend getting both!

Twas a light mist.  I’ll stop.

Lower temp to induce fruit?

If it’s PE you probably want to case it ASAP.

Also you shouldn’t have to fan at all.

They all look good though, PE takes forever.

Without casing you’ll usually end up with blobs the first flush like the bottom tub here.

And that one actually was cased too, just a weird clone.

Go to Home Depot and get a bag of jiffy 5050 mix. Usually green with pictures of vegetables or something on it. It’ll say it’s a mix of peat moss verm and lime.  Just get it wet, grab a handful and squeeze it til no water comes out then sprinkle it like 1/3 inch thick over the surface and make sure it’s level. You can pasteurize it first to be safe but it’s been fine for me right from the bag.
