I use a large nail and you can usually punch through 3 or 4 of them at a time.

Thank you for reminding me why I use bags exclusively now! I used to stack 5-10 lids and drill through them. A bench vise helps.

Buy a drill press!

I kid i kid. Theres no really other easy way to drill holes without investing large amounts of money into things like a drill press

Just email Kerr and ask them to make a new style of lid for microscopy purposes only.

You don't have to screw them onto bottles to drill them. You can also use them unmodified. It takes all of about 2 seconds to drill out a lid.

If you insist on using liquids in your routine, then pour. If you're making a lot of lids I assume your intention is to grow bulk.

the simple fix to SHIPS is to open the lid, as Chron menioned...
SHIPs arent all they are knocked up to me (see what I did there? )
i find that they start failing after many cycles in the PC. they get kind of brittle and the silicone starts to fail. i wish i had never made SHIPS on my lids. after some practice and muscle memory its just as easy to open the lid, even if they arent plastic. thats my cents.

Drill and polyfill, I can't see a need for needles in any part of cult.

I just use a handheld paper hole punch. Perfect holes for my self healing injection ports and enough room to stuff a nice size wad of polyfil for exchange.
I used to use nails, drill bits and all sorts of stuff but a hole punch makes a perfect hole without any jagged metal or burs.
