Doing good
Based on the side pins, Iβd restrict the air flow a bit more. Might help.

restrict airflow? I thought FAE was good? this is a shoebox, and I'm just leaving the top off (I was dubtubing)

FAE is great. But, getting a good pinset is a balancing act - you want to keep humidity high, while maximizing FAE, even though the two counteract.
A lot of side pinning usually means the conditions (this balance of humidity and FAE) are better on the sides. That usually means the surface isnβt humid enough. Therefore, side pins can be avoided by restricting FAE, which increases humidity.

I gotta disagree with Feldman. Side pinning because of the lack of a liner. I would not "dial" anything in at this stage. Looks good, why mess with it.
Next time you can use a liner. Nothing wrong with side pins in my opinion. Edit: I'm gonna double down and say if anything increase FAE they look slightly fuzzy.

Carefully using a fan directly at the tub....it'll dry it out, but you're doing good! You got fruits congratulations!!

Yeah more air is better so long as you can maintain surface conditions.
Dub tub or shoeboxes with the lid resting on top should be fine for both, Iβd lean towards less air and more moisture until you learn to control conditions more. I had a bunch of early grows get too dry and it really screws things up.

I'm noticing the top of my tub has been getting dryer and that I have to mist more often. is it because the shrooms are growing really fast now, or is it because of the environment it's in?

Couldnβt tell you without being there, probably both but more environmental. Usually as the pins grow and suck up water and nutrients the whole sub shrinks.
I have had some where the surface seemed to suck up water constantly but usually once pins come in they seem to help keep conditions better. Thereβll always be little beads of water on the myc near the clusters.

I would have left the lid on "latched" until you saw 100% colonization or pins on top, then flipped it.
I remember messing with my first shoebox grow too much (opening lid, misting, dub tubbing, etc), and I fucked it up. Poor yield.
Less messing with, bigger yields.

It happens.
First three pics are all the same shoebox. I had zero surface pins so I flipped it onto the lid and put it in a humidity chamber type thing. Basically just a big tote with wet paper towels and the lid cracked.

As long as the lid doesnβt have a rubber seal to make it airtight when you close it there should be enough air. Unless youβre somewhere super humid.

I read somewhere that if your surface conditions are "perfect" on top, it will discourage side-pinning. What sort of misting do you do to the top side? Im guessing its drying out too much. Same thing happened on some Ps cyans I was trying to grow. Side pinning usually comes from too dry conditions.

I think patting down the edges of your shoebox when you spawn with coir may help with side pinning
