What cool shit are you into? What cool shit do you want to get into? Hobbies, projects, plans, etc.
Anyone building something cool? Setting up a home lab? Starting a band? Building a yurt? Keeping goats? Making your own candles and shit?
What's on your docket, or what are you interested in eventually getting into?
What kind of stuff does Shroomery get into in their spare time?

Started home schooling recently so I'm on the lookout for cool projects. Recently put together a Python program to help with learning about taxonomy. It pulls taxonomy data from wikipedia given names of articles, and puts together a tree of life showing how they are connected.

What cool shit are you into? Drawing, collage art, playing records, dancing, playing drums, playing bass guitar, making lectronic musics, remixing songs & other dark arts
What cool shit do you want to get into? Animation, telepathic body modification & turn making music/art into an income.
Anyone building something cool? Halfpipe, a make shift bass guitar with rubber bands & my self-confidence.
Setting up a home lab? That would be dope
Starting a band? Been in a couple of bands way back when and would love to do it again.
Building a yurt? Nurp
Keeping goats? I would like to do this as assistance to yard upkeep
Making your own candles and shit? Candles, no. Shit, yes.
What's on your docket, or what are you interested in eventually getting into? Becoming a gourdsman after the apocalypse
What kind of stuff does Shroomery get into in their spare time? Well, to be honest, all the cool stuff that I mentioned I really haven't done in quite some time. I spend a lot of my time now taking care of my main squeeze due to a heart condition she has developed in recent years.

That's a great idea for a coding project. Fun and creative!
Homeschooling yourself or someone else? If you're ever looking for Python based data analysis/viz and data science projects, check out kaggle. Super comprehensive tutorials and kernals done by other users that makes it easy to get hands on fast, just uses Jupyter Notebooks right on Kaggle itself. They also do data analysis competitions with actual cash prizes, often times it's local governments just looking for answers and insights.
Project Euler is also a pretty cool math site that uses programming logic to teach advanced crazy math. I haven't had the self discipline to actually give it a try, I'm balls deep in my first real statistics class that I'm trying to find a similar programming oriented resource for.Quote:

What's telepathic body modification?
And I feel you. Spare time for fun stuff always ebbs and flows. Most important thing is taking care of you and yours.

My kid. Teaching him some Python too but just the basics so far. We have a book for kids on the Pygame library, which I have messed around with a bit but not too recently. Hoping to make a Plants vs Zombies clone with him eventually.
Also my dad was helping me with some building projects outside, a privacy fence and gate to the backyard that I built pretty half assed over the summer and got wrecked by the wind when winter came. So the gate has proper hinges and a latch instead of hanging from eye hooks, and the fencing is reinforced by 3 steel cables going horizontally. I still have some more to do on the fence but I'm not worried about wind damage any more.

I'm working on a portfolio for my architecture career, designing my own stuff in my spare time when I'm not doing 3D renderings for someone else.
Kind of been lazy the past few weeks, but really need to get myself back on track asap.
I did a lot of abstract digital art for a year or so, would like to do that again someday.
I play drums, and would like to join a psychedelic funk band too...someday.
Also wanna move to a different city...

Awesome, the earlier the better for sure. I wish I had been able to take programming classes in pre-k. Would've made math as a whole much easier with something interesting and tangible to apply it to. Quote:

Interesting. At first I'd assume it was just the inside that changes, not your actual appearance. But I've done enough acid and experienced enough thangs on it to really question if there isn't something there.

South Africa seems gorgeous and kinda dangerous, and having had a little bit of experience in not so nice areas, I can safely say that the amount it really affects your day to day life, even indirectly, is crazy. Any idea of where you'd like to land?

I have a 1 year old so most of my free time is gone. I use the little free time I have left to do art, garden, play video games, and other stuff.
This week I have been getting my garden in order. I planted and repotted about 40 trees, 100 veggies, and a bunch of cannabis plants.
The art I have been working on is a black light painting that Asantes ghost told me to paint.
For building next week I am starting to rewire 2 apartments that burned down, installing 4 heating units in a few other apartments, rebuilding an electrical service, and installing some lighting. I need to paint the foundation on my house too.
I might take my dirt bike out and ride it through the neighborhood later or tomorrow. It's been over a year since I've been riding.
Next week I'm going to the Avenue of the Giants!!!

Yeah as someone with already poor time management, I'm so glad I don't have to account for and constantly keep alive a little person. I feel like sometimes I barely do that for myself .

Yeah, it is beautiful and dangerous. But we kind of pride ourselves on being tough sons of bitches. But everyone is getting pretty tired of having to look over their shoulders.
I'd firstly like to go to Cape Town. Not really that safe, but mainly just for the social atmosphere, and connections - where I live it's mostly for families and not so much for young adults.
Ideally I'd like to emigrate to somewhere...not sure where though. If it's at all even possible and WW3 doesn't break out or some crazy ass shit.
Really want to experience first world living...
South Africa's infrastructure isn't that bad in comparison with the rest of Africa, but definitely not great. Generally I feel safe where I currently live, but you still have to keep your guard up. Shit can get real.

I was going to buy a 3D printer, but my work laptop shit the bed so I had to buy a new one. 3D printing was going to be my new hobby, but for now I'm sticking with learning C/C++ and fucking around with programming embedded systems.
Might start trying to make rave masks for the fiance that have LEDs and OLED screens in them.

That's super cool! I think it's a really smart idea for parents to get their kids into learning programming. Going forward I think programming is by far one of the best skills you can pick up for getting a job. Even if you arent like programming for a living, there's so many ways you can implement programs into your life and automate trivial things.
Have you heard about Sketch at all? There's a really popular Sketch framework for Raspberry Pi's (i think) intended to help introduce kids to programming, but I think it might be targeted to kids under the age of 5.

After dealing with PTSD one year and being pretty goddamn sick the next I'm finally getting into some serious home renovation on my shitty old falling apart farm house.
It's not easy but damn if it isn't gratifying.
And by that I mean I'm still a 10 year old psychopath at heart and am really enjoying demolishing shit.

I haven't messed with any coding since I learned HTML5 and some old Java in high school. So.. it's probably a bad idea
That sounds super cool though. Taxonomy is fascinatingly inadequate as a scientific method. Like there's millions of man hours of refinement left to the practice. Without us even discovering anything new.
So I really respect that idea. Maybe the wider world will too.

Yeah, it's a lot of work for sure and really time consuming. I have my wife to help, but no grandparents or family in the area to help babysit. We make it work and it's getting easier and easier. I couldn't imagine trying to raise a kid while being single.
I do enjoy the nature as much as possible. My front window actually has a view of the whole Bay Area and I can see the sun setting over the bay and mountains every night and I enjoy that as much as I can. Besides that I do a lot of hiking around the bay and through San Fran. I try to get out to somewhere like Yosemite or the Avenue of the Giants at least every month or two. Last month I went through Death Valley and that was super pretty in a desolate way.
If you ever want to come visit the area and check out some awesome nature sights then let me know. I could put you up and show you some sights. I try to accommodate travelling Shroomerites when ever possible.

I can get by in Java to some degree but I find it relatively clunky to write and a bit of a chore. Python is a lot of fun to program in and can be very human readable and concise. The tradeoff is that the Python interpreter can be pretty inefficient in certain ways, so a lot of the time if there is real heavy lifting to be done it gets passed on to libraries implemented in other languages.
For a few years I used to TA for a first year university CS course that used Python but I burned out at it due to anxiety. Never liked public speaking.

Yeah on the surface it seems like it would all be relatively easy to pin down with DNA tech today, but I'm learning more and more that it's a whole big mess. With this utility I added a simplified mode so it only considers the main categories you would learn in grade school or whatever. But the info on wikipedia will often include a bunch of subcategories and unranked categories etc. So the tree was coming out kind of fucked up when I just included all the categories as is, with categories of the same rank not necessarily appearing at the same depth. Could be fixed without discarded the "extra" levels I'm sure but I have not thought of how best to approach it yet.

Yeah we have both spent a bunch of time with Sketch so he is pretty familiar with basic programming concepts. As well as being available on Raspberry Pi you can use it right on the web page. I think there are versions for some desktop OSes too.

I would love to learn how build diorama art to look realistic in recreated favorite tv moments. For example a classic moment of the twilight zone was an episode called "To serve man" and the fear and gravity of revelation by the last woman on earth telling the linguist that the book was a cookbook but they already were taking him up the stairs. That in a small see through display. That's just an example though I thought of other tv and movie moments as well but I've extensively looked into it and it's too expensive for
