Dropped Spores or Black Mold?

Hello all,
As always, I've been keeping a close watch for any potential mold on a recent batch of cakes.
In a previous batch, I saw what I thought was "black mold" and scrapped the whole thing immediately. However, on this most recent round, I am thinking this may not be black mold, but rather the opening caps' dropped spores.
You can see it's more of a deep purple. And I just noticed this showed up overnight when a number of caps opened. Also, the color seems to match the stems where they broke from the cap.
Dropped spores? Or black mold?
Thank you in advance!

Great to hear! Thank you.
Figured they were spores, but better safe than sorry.

Here's a post with how things should and shouldn't look if you're ever looking for some reference. It doesn't detail everything, but it's got a good bit of stuff in there.

Mold wouldn't spread that fast, if at all, on perlite. Those are good ol' spores

Thanks @footpath. That link is extremely helpful. I'm surprised I hadn't come across it yet!
@Socrateshroom, great call about the speed of mold growth. That's a useful measure.

Hey man, did you try harvesting the spores that dropped? The side of my bin was COVERED with spores from a big cap and I'm wondering if I can scrape the bin and get some good spores.

No, that's even worse than taking a spore print which is inherently dirty

What's your preferred method for harvesting spores? I thought the general consensus was spore prints are the way to go. I'm a noob and trying to soak up as much information and as many techniques as possible.

It depends how clean you want to be when taking prints which will differ person to person. Some people take their prints in front of their flow hood or in their SAB and others just like to put some caps on some foil in a sealed container (I am in the latter group).
Prints are primarily for people who are already using agar so I never expect my prints to be clean but I make some attempt to not expose them to open air than I need to. If you scrape spores of the side of your tub you do indeed have spores but it will likely be harder to clean up on agar than if you took a more traditional print where you have bit more control over the environment you made the print in.
This is a hypothesis though so feel free to try both and see if you notice any significant difference in overall cleanliness of your spores.
