I know one of the culprits are slugs, but maybe your technique will reveal more!

Well, I put my container poppies in my flower bed, all spaced out nicely, and the birds dug massive holes in the soil, and plucked most of the sprouts out while I was gone  to work :mad2:

I manged to salvage some, and I put some other flower seedlings in the place of the ones that perished though.

I also put some chicken wire over the top to keep them out, and now the slugs are having a feast!

Not looking good for me this year for that bed.

On a side note, the poppy beds that are mixed with other wildflowers, haven't been touched by anything, go figure!

I'll post a pic soon.

that shit sucks man :frown:

Wow, by removing the main stem, you can get multiple buds form your plants!

I knew this, just never practiced it.

Now, I will

If this chick couldn't kick my ass, I'd be in love, ahahaha!

at 3 minutes she shows peshawar poppies. they have a great pod to plant size ratio. I've had 6 foot tall poppies that only made 2 inch diameter pods, and 3-4 foot poppies that made 3+ inch diameter pods. thats that shit i'm after. I find middle eastern opium cultivars have the best pod to plant size ratio, and many european industrial cultivars to have the worst.

I never have gotten anything remotely like that!

Time to start looking for more seeds

I'm going to be selecting which varieties I want to keep growing this season based on characteristics like pod size and plant size. I'm also going to add Galania, Asian OB and Zahir to my collection next season. I had an old Indian cultivar years ago that had massive pods and laciniate white flowers, lost those seeds when i moved.

Great thread everybody wish I’d seen it sooner.

Wasn’t aware they don’t transplant well so pricking them out today and crossing my fingers. Spread some more seed around incase they don’t take.

Btw these were germinated inside at around 20C

Awesome job brother

They will take for sure!

People try to make poppy growing seem harder than what it really is.

Poppies are a very resilient, and hardy plant

My babies are doing good. My dog ran thru them but didn't damage much. When should I thin them out?

I water them twice a day to keep moist. They are protected by the window screens.

As I said earlier that I never thin my poppies, if I were too, I would do it sooner than later.

Looking great

That is also the stage that they transplant really easy!

I would pluck the thinnings out with a toothpick, and start up another bed, spacing them just right for ultimate growth
