LOL.

I'm aware of the rules, I wrote them.

I'm giving an answer to a question to save the OP time. Continuing to lance a dry pod is pointless.

Is it skirting the rules? Kind of...If I enforced with an iron hand then most posting here would get infractions.

Using heat to extract from poppies is also perfectly fine too.

Same plant, new flower heads. There's 9 all together now.

I couldn't help myself with the other plants/pods & unregretfully consumed them a few weeks back. I'll save the seeds from this one so I can grow some next year...

In my typical fashion of lagging on posting pics  lol, here are pics of the poppies I grew last year.

This was the most common/dominant traits I saw from the seeds I used last year

A few had "ruffled" edges

And even fewer had these colors/traits

The main patch of flowers I grew

Just a small portion of the pods I got...

Seed harvest.....

:sun:

I'll be sowing seed for this year's plot sometime in the next 2 weeks.

I'm not sure what variety/cultivar they are. I don't think they are gigantium though.

I assumed they were "Tasmanian" but really not sure  . The white petals with purple streaks in the center of the petal seems to be a common trait across a few different varieties/cultivars.

White petals, purple streak in the center of each petal, most plants had 2 to 4 pods, most plants were between 4 to 6 feet tall, and the seeds are blue/grey in color.

I tried that with a few pounds of seed, and it was a total waste. I got no sprouts anywhere.

Good luck with yours though, and keep us posted:thumbup:

They can freeze. That’s what would happen in nature. I do believe the idea that they need a cold cycle is a bit of a myth. I had some seeds that never got cold and they sprouted within two days of planting them in a cup

Yeah, I mean, I know that they can freeze.

I start mine in my yard in February, and it still freezes here until April. The thing is, if you put them out too early, like the fall, or in December or January, they will sprout, but they never survive because of the constant freezing nights we have here.

Poppies will overwinter in zones 8 and above but they absolutely will not in 7 or below. Trust me, I have tried for several years in a row. They just wont survive the constant freezing weather, especially temps in the teens and 20's.

I'd love for someone in grow zone 7 to prove me wrong on this though, that would be swell

Also, they need no cold cycle at all that's bull. I once mad some tea one time when I resided in Florida, and I didn't quite boil the seeds, but they did simmer for a bit, then I dumped all the used seeds in my compost pile. well a week later I had thousands of poppy sprouts all over! It was also in the middle of summer too, so.....
