~600g fully dried pods. Excited what to do with them!!! probably make opium with bubble bags, then laudunum as well!
It is water soluble. How do you extract water soluble with bags?
Just download opium for masses and get the specs from there. Simple water extraction with citric acid and temp of 80-100C and time of 30 min. After 30 min straw and repeat with the plant material with addec citric acid and water(just a little bit, or use 1 lime) I used to do3 pulls and compine them.
Fuck using heat for poopy extract, you're ruining valuables. Stick with CWE and you can use freezer to separate the alkaloids from the bulk of the water.
Also I would remove the seeds then reevaluate your dry mass typewritermonkey.

If you can't find the info you need with a search then I'd recommend trying in a different sub forum.
A general reminder to the thread: The focus of the ethno garden ends at harvesting. Extract talk is off topic and belongs elsewhere.

Alright guys check this out. I read like 6 pages in and gained some information but I can't really go all the way through the whole thread. Check this out: So I have a bunch of dogs and my soil is mad hard and won't grow grass. Its gonna start getting cooler here and I was thinking of sowing some seed around October, Halloween time. What I need to know is, what is the best kind of soil to use if I plan on doing 2 or 3 big pots, with like 3 plants each hopefully. I thought about germinating with my mushrooms in a starter tray but everything seems to say its easier to just sow outdoors. If yall could point me to a link or point out any flaws in my plan itd be greatly appreciated.

Poppies will thrive in the poorest of soils, just till you up a nice patch and scatter the seeds. You wont do very well growing in pots, unless your just growing for aesthetic purposes.
My soil here is solid clay, and they say poppies don't grow well in clay soil, well I'm proved "them" wrong, because my poppies always do well in this clay

What about if I have 3 mastiff who tear my yard to bits? I don't think I could get them in a sun-heavy spot without them getting torn up.
I'm just growing for some annuals, nothing heavy. I'm in the Midwest and summers here are stilling the 90s daily, arou d what temperature should it be when i sow? And would it be worthless to put some topsoil down over where I sow them?
Edit: Im Gonna go ahead and order some Afghani special/izmir seeds from a vendor here. Those what i want? Are giganteums actually bigger or just the name? I'm sorry for all the questions I'm just now jumping into this. Upon further research I'm just gonna sow them towards the end of fall closer to December before the ground starts freezing and put a wire hoop around it so my dogs stay away from it. Really just need to know what kind of seeds are most forgiving while still being large and pretty and pretty active. And what kind of soil If any i should supplement with.

Well, you can not grow poppies until next season then buddy sorry.
Start them in February or March for a June harvest, and just put chicken wire around your patch to keep your dog out

so I should wait until winters ending rather than before it starts? Is there any dis/advantages between the two? I'm not in a rush or anything and don't mind not having results until next season. just wanna do it right and get solid results, so I figured I'd get on top of it now.

I live in the South, grow zone 7 to be exact, so I know you are much colder than I am living in the Midwest.
Poppies can be started in the fall, and will overwinter, and bloom in the spring in grow zones 8 and above, but 7 and below they wont.
This being said, all you can do is start them towards the end of winter, and wait until June for a harvest.
you will just have to be patient and wait. It's just too hot out for them now,and it will get too cold where you are if you try to over winter them and they will freeze.
I have tried it a couple years in a row,and it just wont work unless you live further down south.

sweet thanKS man! Thats exactly the info I needed. Like I said, I'm real good at being patient. I'm not in this for anything but pretty summer flowers. I had a really bad opioid problem in the past so these aren't for a habit or anything. Just to look pretty and have around for an experience every year or so.
So around February ill sow the seeds, or whenever my winter is about to end. I'll till the spot, make sure its in a lot of sun and that the soils is softish, sprinkle some afghan special/izmir seeds (these are good right? And about how many?) and just replace the dirt over them? I really don't mean to bombard u with questions I just can't find a tek or any really comprehensive reading.

No problem man
Yes, just start your seeds in late February, or early March in a tilled up area, in full sun, but don't cover the seeds with soil. Just let them fall where they may, and leave them alone, they'll do the rest.
I'm sure your variety will be fine, and what I do is put my seeds in a salt shaker, and generously sprinkle them throughout your plot.
They are a super easy flower to grow, and will grow in poor soils with no fertilizer.
Feel free to ask as many questions as you like brother, that's what this place is all about

sweet man. I'm getting seeds from a pretty reputable source, and I've heard stories of genetically modified poppies which aren't active. I probably don't run the risk of getting those kind of seeds from our vendors? Sorry if thats against the rules.

When I was a newb to growing p.soms. , I tried scoring the pods. ( Madmuncher , you cut it way too deep. ) It pretty much screwed my harvest up. You don't lose a thing when you make the tea. I used a stainless steel salad bowl when I harvested. I put the stem ( don't throw them away. They are good too) down in the bowl and just let it collect all season. By the end of the season the bowl was black AF. I scraped it all out of the bowl and had a very nice ball.
Now this ball of black goo isn't really smokable. You will feel a little , but I doubt you will get anything remotely like a good cup of tea.
If you aren't opiate tolerant , ( you shouldn't be messing with it at all , unless you are just stuck on stupid. An opiate habit is no joke , and opium and it's constituents are very addictive) be careful when you dose. If you have a potent strain you can get really sick or even die.
For those growing gigs because they are huge pods , they are also very weak. I wouldn't waste my time with them.
JBGTAA , I don't know about your grow situation , but I look for mounds of dirt to grow on. They seem to like growing on hills.
While they will grow in crappy soil , you want the soil to be fine and not chunky or with a high clay content. The seedlings roots are extremely sensitive and won't permeate hard , chunky soil.
If you let anything happen to the seedling you will end up with stunted plants that will mostly , if not only give you aborts as pods.
Do Not Transplant them. Where you sow your seed is where they need to grow.
Don't over sow your seed. I thin the herd as they grow. They need a good bit of room if you want big plants. The ones you pull up during the thinning process... Just toss them. Trying to replant them is a waste of time and space.
For you guys with flowers and pods right now.... Are y'all South of the equator?
I can't see them growing in this heat...
I have grown many a year and if any of you guys need any advice , feel free to hit me up.
BTW: there are quite a few pics of my grows in my photo album.

nice photo collection. btw i didnt lance those plants just swiped a few pods for seeds and maybe tea or a tincture. somebody was scraping them everyday. they really fucked a few up. it seems like the seeds mature for another few days after the pods are harvested i thought it was a little early but i think the seeds are viable they look good

so when I get paid this Monday I'm grabbing some wood nails and garden liner and making a 4x4 garden bed. Gonna use just regular organic potting soil in and plan to grow tomatoes, chili's, lettuce and poppies in them does that sound like an issue? Not a ton of poppies just a few plants, and I was planning on making them into tea. Im not opiate naive whatsoever, had a 5 year IV fentanyl habit. Basically I'm just wondering the best way to make tea and if regular potting soil will work for the poppies and allow all those different plant species to survive in the same soil grouping. Basically just making a garden bed and would like a soil recommendation and what i shouldn't put in there with the poppies
