Mine are all crowded, but looking good!
I think I'll save the seeds, and do a massive guerilla grow next season

Do pods swell up and increase in size after the petals drop while they "ripen" up?
Last year was my first time growing the plant and I can't recall if the pods on my plants last year swelled up much or not as they matured/ripened.
Just looking at the pods on a few plants that have already dropped their petals and the pods look kinda tiny, but I'm thinking they should swell up a little bit...?...

i think it's a defect from inbreeding or something's going on with the roots maybe
i noticed some seeds harvested a few years ago all did that when i planted them

I'll try to remember to grab a pic tomorrow. Thats a nice little box you got going there Allium. openmind, the pods definitely swell after the petals drop, easily double the original size or more for me.

Is there a variety that is better suited towards warm weather? I'm just now able to sow seeds and was worried that peshewar might no do so well since its later in the season. Any input appreciated 🙏

The thing is, they all love warm weather, it's just hot weather that they wont tolerate.
Unless you live in an area that stays cool all throughout the summer, you have to plant your seeds in the fall and let them over winter for an early spring harvest, or plant your seeds in late winter/early spring, for an early summer harvest.
Only In grow zones 8 and above, can you can plant them in the fall for an early spring harvest.
Grow zones 7 on down you have to wait and plant in late winter to very early spring.
On my side of the US, I know of no poppies that could be planted this late, and survive our brutal humid summers.
And, even if you did manage to get them growing right now, they would flower at only a few inches tall, and produce microscopic blooms and pods the size of peas!
Trust me, I've lived all over the US,and I know just how well poppies will perform based on grow zone and temperature.
When I lived in Florida, I could grow plants throughout the whole fall/winter, and they would get massive, and bloom early spring.
I could also plant in late winter, and get an early summer harvest as well.
This just can't be done where I'm at now, in zone 7, I've tried for the past couple of years.
It doesn't snow here, so that's not what ends up killing them, it's those freak cold snaps in the 20's that do them in every time!

all of my poppies are now in some stage of bolting/elongation. Hundreds of plants will flower in may.

They are probably Papaver Orientale then.
If you go back a few pages, you'll see my poppies that I started indoors.
They have since been transplanted out in the ground, and are bigger and healthier than the ones that I sowed directly in the ground.

That's almost exactly what my flowers look like on the cultivar I'm growing that I'm not familiar with/know the name of (I got the seeds from someone around here a long while back), except the petals on mine are more of a pure-white color...they are white and have purple marks/streaks just like those do in the same spots. Almost identical.
Do you know what variety/cultivar those are?

There are hundreds of industrial cultivars that have that exact flower color/pattern. That particular plant is a Slovakian cultivar 'Major' grown for seed and alkaloid. Almost all of the modern European industrial cultivars have that same flower. There are cultivars that produce no morphine with that flower, and the most potent cultivar, 'Buddha' (1.8% morphine in dried straw) also has that flower.

looks like saplings maybe birch or alder family. maybe those little seedlings around it are poppies it's hard to tell from that pic. poppies are super tiny when they sprout look like this: (in start pods on left side)
