Contamination: A happy ending.

I had 3 fully colonized jars of B+ when I started to notice something was wrong in two of them. One had a yeller spot and the other had a small area that didn’t colonize. I asked around on here and the consensus was bacterial infection.
I didn’t want to waste anymore time with contaminated grain but I didn’t want to toss two of my three jars either. So I g2g’d my healthy jar into new grain and did an experiment with the contams.
I just threw some manure in a tub. It wasn’t pasteurized or aged properly and it was full of straw. I set it by the stove and let it do it’s thing. Besides a few spots of lipstick mold I picked out, it colonized pretty damn well. I misted the MF down and put it in a cooler room.
Low and behold, it’s pinning! They’re growing! I think I could maybe even get a couple ounces out of this tub. The mold spots actually seem less vigorous than times when I did pasteurize.
Is this a fairly typical result for deciding to grow out contaminated jars or did I just get really lucky?

I was just curious what people had to say. I’m a new grower and I have bacterial jars (much less than this,) and am curious about it.

Bacterial jars can produce results. The one in the OP looks fucked though. That tub is pinning BECAUSE it’s contaminated. It’s not fully colonized (not by cube myc anyway). I’d be surprised if OP gets anywhere near 100%BE.

Try to separate the bacterial jars from healthy ones when you spawn. Otherwise, just don’t expect yields to be THAT high off a bacterial tub.

Pinning BECAUSE it’s contaminated.
Are you saying it’s pinning early because it’s threatened and is trying to reproduce while its still possible?
Another thing that might be a complicating factor is that I put it into fruiting conditions early after I picked out some lipstick mold spots. I figured better to get a few fruits than to dump the whole tray.

BE. What’s that an acronym for? I searched the site and all the results were about being gay. As in homosexual. Probably not what you’re getting at.

The visible spots were spores. Lipstick mold myc is white/gray if I remember correctly.
BE stands for biological efficiency and is a metric for comparing yields. 100% BE is 1oz dry per 1 quart of grain spawned.
Oh and yeah, you got it, it pins while it still can.

Heard. Makes sense. The only reason I said lipstick mold is because of this picture from this dubious book.

Little update. I ended up getting 35 grams out of this tray. It fruited regionally at different instead of all at once across the tub. It’s getting moldy and its time to dump. The picture is of one of the regions while it fruited.

It’s been a month now and Ive gotten 3 oz out of two flushes. Not great but WAY more than the zero grams I was expecting. The tub is still producing, albeit lightly. Here’s the last few stragglers. Still no mold.
I have had many more problems with tubs that I have pasteurized. I don’t understand why. Maybe I’m pasteurizing at too high of a temperature and killing off the good bacteria as well? I was doing it around 180.
I definitely plan to do this again with jars that look bacterial. When it gets warmer I guess I’ll just make a patch of manure in the woods and inoculate it out there. I probably won’t pasteurize it because it would suck to waste any time on something that might fail but this experience has pleasantly confused me.
