I been lifting 21 years. I eat to bulk in fall & winter then go strict all protein spring and summer up to 300 grams of protein a day. During my protein binge I use Metamucil for my fiber intake. I take high amounts of vitamins & herbs all year long. My waist has been the same size since I was 29, I am now 51. It varies by a size or two when bulking, but always comes back when I shred.

Loaded Shaman said: Lose weight = create a caloric deficit (almost doesn't matter WHAT you eat, regarding this point and only to make this point; DEFICIT = WEIGHT LOSS NO MATTER WHAT YOU'RE EATING/NOT EATING).
Gain weight = create a caloric surplus (almost doesn't matter WHAT you eat, regarding this point and only to make this point; SURPLUS = WEIGHT GAIN NO MATTER WHAT YOU'RE EATING/NOT EATING).
Depending on personal biology, medical needs, etc. - food choice is ALMOST superfluous regarding weight loss/gain. Notice I didn't say anything regarding actual health, just caloric intake here, folks.
What if I told you that an intake of fructose and/or ethanol in excess of half an ounce a day predisposes a person to obesity and Syndrome X by *making* them overeat?
You are mostly right in what you say but the missing piece is fructose toxicity and alcohol toxicity.
Kids are fatter than their parents not because they are "lazier" or "have less willpower" but they simply have a greater excess of fructose in their diet.
Once they have become obese obese adults, the chronic fructose toxcicity has fucked with them so badly that they are almost doomed to be obese for life because their metabolism is broken.
Over 99.9% of chronically morbidly obese adults are back at their old weight or over within 5 years of having successfully dieted by ANY method.
