PF Cakes turning brown inside the jar.

I have done PF cakes many times but I don't think I have seen this happen. Every cake in one batch the oldest mycellium near the top of the jar turning brownish yellow color. It looks like normal mycellium, just brownish/yellow. Doesnt appear to be a contam, but maybe it is. Or is this metabolites?
Exposure and colors of the picture is making it look different and probably worse than it is.
Last time I checked on these cakes, maybe 5 days ago, I am pretty sure they where a nice white color.
Colonize temp about 75f, but I just added a thermometer to verify. Only other thing different this time is used a different brand of brown rice that was a little bit lighter in color than normal. It is a multispore from home made syringe and print. I don't normally have contam problems, but did not use a SAB or anything when preparing the print and syringe.

Given the info you stated, I’d say the jars are contaminated.. I’ve never had healthy pf cake jars look like that. Probably picked something up while making the syringe in open air. If you aren’t going to need the jars to make new cakes, I’d watch to see what they do, but I wouldn’t keep my hopes up.

My guess is bacterial contamination, if its coming directly from the areas you inoculated and every jar with the same syringe... Then it was most likely the sryinge was bad.
Could still attempt to fruit them, might get some fruits off it still.
Just don't spawn with other healthy cakes and spread it around ovb :P

here is a better picture of what it looks like.

it does seem to be concentrated more near the inoculation points. The print used was nearly two years old so worrying it was old I used almost an entire syring on 8 PF jars... probably a bad idea.
Weird it took 10-14 days to appear and was I think it was healthy before that.
I am going to let them go as they are still colonizing pretty quick, at least up until this point, and see what happens with them.

Take the kids off when fully colonized and fruit from the jar.

Id say its either bacterial or maybe mycelium waste (which would be better)

I also could be a response to heat sources or other things we don't know about. I am pretty sure it will fruit from the top and you will get mushies

Well after the yellowing appeared four out of nine jars stalled out and the bottom 1/3rd has not colonized. I believe there is some bacteria in going in the stalled out jars as the larger brown rice bits are turning to a goo.
The other five jars finished colonizing normally. Got taken out of the jars and smell normal. They are going for a dunk and then put into the fruiting chamber. I think they will do fine and kinda looks like the yellow/brown discoloration has faded some with new growth over top of it.
The ones that stalled out I am probably going to cut away the uncolonized parts and fruit them isolated. Pretty sure they will still fruit OK as I have done that before when a jar stalls out.

Cakes where fu**ked.
The genetics used was a super aggressive fruiting type that pins very soon after full colonization yet the jars sat after dunking for two weeks doing not much of anything. Eventually one cake got green mold and one cake spit out four pathetic puny little mushrooms. Some of the cakes had some fluffly new mycellium growth in patches but overall stayed yellow and looked dead.
Trashed them. I am guessing some kind of infection even though they did not smell or show growth besides being a dead looking yellow/brown color.
