Searched all last year hoping to be the first to record Ovoids in Augusta Ga with no luck I'll be heading up North to find and study them this season but I stumbled across an area in Augusta today and would like some opinions on the habitat here are some photos...

Yeah, that looks good. Just hunt in those woody debris piles by streams.

Just to tag onto this a little bit. Are ovoids generally found in stream habitats near developed areas like many other woodlovers, or can they also be found in more secluded stream habitats? Say on hiking trails miles away from the nearest road?

they are voracious so be sure to feed them regularly or they will rip right through a substrate.

I'm going uptown this season to find some specimens to study...I never went north last year so I didn't have the chance to pop my ovoid cherry...But this year I have a prime location with big hopes to record the first find in my area if the spot happens to not put any off I'm going to make a solution of spores in a backpack sprayer with what I bring back from uptown to spray the area down really well...Thanks for the feedback

IME ovoids do much better in man made chips you would be best off searching in devolved areas near rivers and streams. It can be tough to find them in their natural habitat compared to mannade landscaping.

I'm also in GA but a bit more north than Augusta. I've got a few places I think will be good to check. Some are developed areas with lots of woodchips near streams while others are more remote. I'll be hitting both pretty hard this year looking for ovoids.
If I manage to get my hands on some spores I'll definitely be spreading them around these areas as well.

If you find a large patch you can use it to seed new patches by transplanting the pins and mycelium. This is the fastest way to get a large number of patches established. Other less effective methods include spreading stem butts, burying cakes, growing mycelium in bins, and spreading the old mushrooms.
