Hats off! * 1

In church it's normally considered inappropiate to ware a hat during the service, or when praying, because women are to have long hair to show there lower than men, and men should'nt have long hair or cover there hair because they are above women, and short, uncovered hair shows mans humilty before God.

and even in Buddhism I find Shantideva saying not to teach to people who ware hats on there head.

when in Rome do as the Romans do?

my problem is, a couple years ago my head scabbed up all the top of my head, I picked at the crusty scabs along came off my hair, almost five years later my hair has not grown back (oh well, life sucked anyways) it looks pretty much like male pattern baldness, but a little weirder, when I figure out how to put my phone pictures on the laptop i'll show you, even though i'm more embarrassed by it more oftenly, I ware a hat all the time, even though I buzz cut it as close to skin as possible, you don't really notice it.

I don't like taking my hat off, can there be an exception?

Isn't it a sign of general disrespect to wear hats in churches, schools, and government buildings, etc.?

Sorry for the late response, but is'nt that still considered "covering the head"? it brings me pride now that I am willing to show my humility in spiritual settings! I have to face the fact without condemnation, or justification, or any identification, when i'm alone in my bedroom I take off my hat when reading Christian, Buddhist, or pretty much any spiritual book, it humbles me, I feel like I'm baring my accidental shame, but I haven't taken that step in public when readiing, or listening to a Dhamma talk,,,I was listening to Eckhart Tolle talk on Youtube the other night and half way through I thought "should I take off my hat for this?" and in syncronicity response he happend to say "Only if you identify yourself as a Man.",,,but thinking about it, it's not so much the "Man" part but the Christian part, I Identify myself as a Christian when I, and why I take my hat off, my humility/shame to share!

I know church's are kind and friendly, so it's easier there, but how can I do this in public? it's now not so much how do fix my hair, but do I bare it shamelessly? without drawing attention, "Mom, what's wrong with that guys hair?" would say the little kids! lol, its cool, I will survive with this burden,,,a couple years ago I had a really long beard and it was hot, I was walking everywhere, sweating buckets high on Spice, looking totally fucked up,, a little kid I heard say "that guys weird!" to his mom, a little embarresed and a weirdo feeling but that was life back in the day! and that was with my hat on,! I can only imagine what I would of looked like without it at the time!

God bless! peace! :stoned:

You don't need church or any other people to talk with God.

And He doesnt care if you wear a hat or not lol

Could I say God talks to me through Church? both the Preacher and community there speak, I listen and they hear my prayer request and I hear there's, we pray together, we sing to and about God together, and the sermon is advising, influential, and inspiring, plus community brings fellowship, even though I'm Christian, I wish athiest had this family of gatherers to give them unity/community/fellowship, seems like a healthy necessity to life.

though I understand what you are saying about not needing others to talk to God, I've been reading alot of Krishnamurti lately, let me type out something from "Commentaries on Living" which is a collection of short, beautiful essays of his:
from "Authority"...:

Quote:

...Exclusive, private knowledge offers deeply satisfying pleasure. To know something that others do not know is a constant source of satisfaction; it gives one the feeling of being in touch with deeper things which afford prestige and authority. You are directly in contact, you have something which others have not, and so you are important, not only to yourself, but to others. The other look up to you, a little apprehensively, because they want to share what you have; but you give, always knowing more. You are the leader, the authority; and this position comes easily, for people want to be told, to be led. The more we are aware that we are lost and confused, the more eager we are to be guided and told; so authority is built up in the name of the State, in the name of religion, in the name of a Master or a party leader.

The worship of authority, whether in big or little things, is evil, the more so in religious matters. There is no intermediary between you and reality; and if there is one, he is a perverter, a mischief-maker, it does not matter who he is, whether the highest saviour or your latest guru or teacher. The one who knows does not know; he can know only his own prejudices, his self-projected beliefs and sensory demands, He cannot know truth, the immeasurable. Position and authority can be built up, cunningly cultivated, but not humility. Virtue gives freedom, but cultivated humility is not virtue, it is mere sensation and therefore harmful and destructive; it is a bondage, to be broken again and again.

It is important to find out, not who is the Master, the saint, the leader, but why you follow. You only follow to become something, to gain, to be clear. Clarity cannot be given by another. Confusion is in us; we have brought it about, and we have to clear it away. We may achieve a gratifying position, an inward security, a place in the hierarchy of organized belief; but all this is self-enclosing activity leading to conflict and misery. You may feel momentarily happy in your achievement, you may persuade yourself that your position is inevitable, that it is your lot; but as long as you want to become something, at whatever level, there is bound to be misery and confusion, Being as nothing is not negation. The positive or negative action of will, which is desire sharpened and heightened, always leads to strife and conflict; it is not the means of understanding. The setting up of authority and the following of it is the denial of understanding. When there is understanding there is freedom, which cannot be bought, or given by another. What is bought can be lost, and what is given can be taken away; and so authority and its fear are bred. Fear is not to be put away by appeasements and candles; it ends with the cessation of the desire to become.

I would like to post more of his work, even better stuff of his, but anyways, I've heard all that before, you don't need to go to church to worship God and stuff, but I love church and I like church, food for the soul, though often I skip church because I'm too tired or something..
