I know what you are getting at
used to live a half hour from the North Dakota border, about a 2 hour trip down to Minot
Saskatchewan has shit for infrastructure itself so the alternative was a 5 hour trip north beyond the provincial capital to Saskatoon for comparable shopping
but the last trip to Minot was to buy a bunch of bondage-style gear to wear to my high school grad so six of one, half a dozen of the other

I feel like Europe is cheating compared to the USA. I'm always amazed how many Americans haven't been to Mexico.

Mexico is the shit. I love the mountains there. I used to go to an orphanage for disabled kids when i was younger as part of my church. I don't do the church thing anymore but having the exposure to the different cultures was very beneficial.
One time my youth group challenged a local group of mexican kids to basketball and whoever won had to make dinner for the other team. We won and got invited for dinner and this Mexican momma made us some of the best fish tacos ive ever had.
Looking back, I hope our leaders paid for her food bill because there were like 8 of us and I'm sure that was a blot of money in food...

Yeah. It's so much eassier for Europeans to say that they've been to like 30 countries....
Most provinces and a lots of States are biggerv than European countries but they don't count...

Lived in the Philippines for a year. My dad was stationed there when I was little. Stopped in Japan for a layover which doesn't really count. And then Jamaica for a friend's wedding. That's it.

Mexico, Canada, the US when I was little and a layover (doesn't really count IMO), and France.
Mexico is amazing! There's a lot of nature and places to go, except that it's getting more and more unsafe, so you can't go hunting anymore and only camp in the more touristy areas. That being said, the rock climbing community is growing and it's a great way to see nature! San Luis Potosí is beautiful, it's so weird to have a mix of tropical forests and deserts so close by, both are great! When I leave my home country I'm gonna miss the amazing food and cheap fruit.
Canada is really cool and a lot more diverse, I had never seen a black person until I went to Montreal, or tasted indian food, or had such great japanese food! I feel like there's so much to do and it's easier to meet people there! My mom took us from one end of the country to the other via greyhound, it was shit because my ass hurt so much and we didn't stop much at all, but I got to see so many mountains and so much nature I wouldn't have otherwise!
France was great too, but since my french is shit I wasn't able to talk much with the locals, thankfully a friend was living there at the time and she showed me around. Drinking wine by the seine was so relaxing despite the occasional rat. I only encountered one rude french person, everyone else was so friendly. I wish I had gone on the bike tour the first day, not the last though.
