Don't mist anymore until your surface no longer looks like the last pic above.

Looks really good man, it’s amazing what a top layer can do. That was the first thing I thought when I saw the first pics I’m glad it went that direction.
I think the side pin is partially because it looked like the surface was just barely starting to knot when you top layered it. Everything looks perfect in the last few posts.
What kind is it?

Hey Guys, today's Day 31 and things are looking good! There's knots, primordia, and pins popping up all over the place. I'm psyched! I've been taking the lid off entirely for about 3 hours in the evening, then misting as needed very lightly to maintain surface conditions. Right now that's coming to about two rounds of misting each day. The lid goes back on in the gasket-up position when I turn in for the night and stays until the next evening when I'm back home.
I know I said it before, but it bears saying again: Thank you all for the help and suggestions. This is one of the most challenging things I've ever done, and I'm finally looking at a win! Visiting my tub is becoming a spectator sport for me as I see new fruiting bodies pop up. I'm still shocked at the recovery this thing made. Moving the light made a big difference, but then the casing layer was like magic. Definitely going to be using that for future grows.
It's still early in the fruiting stage, but I've got a very good feeling about this.
@A.k.a This is a batch of "Purple Mystic" cubes. Did a ms run with a couple of agar transfers using the Josex Poke before going to LC and then to oats. The funny thing is that LC has this rep for being brutally unforgiving if your sterile technique isn't on point. Seems I got that down, I just run into trouble when I go from 2-D to 3-D.

Looking good. Your tub but if the tub has weight to it and doesn't feel 'light' when you lift it and the surface is good then i would minimize misting to avoid tiny bois.

The tub is definitely heavy... a couple of times the myc looked like most of the surface water evaporated and there were a few areas that had a silver sheen, almost like mercury. Couldn't get a decent pic of it looking that way so I know it's hard to say, but do you think I should let it ride as is for a bit, maybe stop pulling the lid completely off? I misted it lightly a little over an hour ago, so right now there's a very fine layer of dew drops similar to the closeup I took the other day.

Yea overmisting can waterlog that sub. Only mist when it absolutely needs it. If the tub weight feels good then let it rock n roll on its own as much as possible.
Lid 90/no fan when your home might be a good idea or just inverted with fan for slow current in room.
Ive left tubs for a week alone after pinning while at another location and came back with no misting ever and pulled great flushes. Ive overmisted and ruined flushes.
Just think before you act but dont overthink.
Youll be surprised how much "neglect" a tub can take. What we consider neglect truly just feels like it but really isnt so most of the time.

It must drive all you experienced cultivators crazy convincing us n00bs to stop watering the damn tub. I promise, come hell or high water, that some day I will have a firm grasp of maintaining proper conditions. Right now I will heed your advice and leave the bottle alone.
I put the lid back on gasket-up a couple hours ago and the fan has been running nonstop pointed at a far wall on low since Sunday night, so there's no stagnant air hanging around in the room. I'll leave things be now and work on breaking the habit of being a helicopter hobbyist.
Edit: And one last Day 31 pic before I turn in because side shots through a tub are tough and I thought this just looked cool.

It looks like it’s getting too dry at some points and starting to mat up.
That’s also what the shiny surface stuff you’re seeing probably is. I did it a lot my first grows and to me the myc looked almost plastic and kind of had the look like when you spill oil on the street it gets kinda rainbow and shiny.
Overall looks good man especially since PM is a newer variety without all the breeding a lot of kinds have.

Thank you. I'd been trying to get some AA+ leucistics going but kept messing things up, so I changed varieties for the hell of it. You're spot on with the plastic look/matted appearance. It's really tough to strike that moisture balance when first starting out. I'll probably need to give it a little attention when I'm back home later today... it looked kinda like the surface of the moon this morning.

lol top layer was a miracle for me.
Once the myc dries out and gets that look you can’t go back so don’t worry about it too much. It also seems to affect the way it holds the mist, when it gets dry and I mist it would either look soaked or totally dry an hour later.

Day 32 - Myc is a little matted, but moisture retention doesn't seem overly problematic. Working on keeping bad habits in check and striking the moisture balance. Little baby aliens are still popping up everywhere.

Day 36 - Some really nice growth taking place. No longer misting--seeing some blotching on caps and striping on the stipes. Unsure if the blotches are from re-absorption of the universal veil, water spots, or actual bacterial blotch. Stripes could be stressed/splitting from rapid growth or simply a trait of phenotype. Either way, the tub is heavy and the pins seem to be doing just fine without the extra water, so I'm starting to learn...
Primordia are still appearing to punch through from the casing layer, and I'm seeing more side pins, as well as a few possible aborts. I attribute the latter two to my learning curve, though things are looking much better than I'd ever anticipated. Definitely planning to clone the side pin at the front of the tub, which my friend has dubbed "Mushzilla."
Updates to my thread may be a little sparse since I have to deal with employment responsibilities to account for the coronavirus b.s. The good news is I'll be spending a good amount of time at home so I can work on mycology stuff more!

Thank you! Some good advice went a very long way. Definitely takes some of the pressure off future grows since I'm rounding the home stretch for the first time now.
