But what does it mean?
Also, I've had a few dates that were great man and nothing came of it. It's all on you. Maybe next time it'll work out.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Psalm 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Revelation 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

First and foremost it's a stance on the god claim. But it also stands for free thought and a scientific approach to understanding the world, which I hold in high regard.

Science, everything spontaneously exploded into existence from nothing in an instant but the idea of a creator is dumb.
I’m not trying to argue I just think it’s funny.

That's not what science is saying at all. We can't even demonstrate that "nothing" is even possible. My response to the origin quesiton is, "I don't know.", which is 100% more honest than, "god did it" At least science is trying to consistently prove itself wrong in order to come up with the most accurate and honest explanation to something available.

I suspect the religion thing is going to keep being an issue, it coming up on the first date is actually a good thing, imagine if you had a dozen dates, really fell for her, and then it turned out to be a deal breaker.
I've noticed in my own conversations with atheists that a lot of them really don't understand religion, or religious people, they think they do, but they really don't. The exceptions are usually atheists who used to be religious, and they usually get along worse with religious folks than the atheists who don't understand them.
If you can accept that religion is important to her, that she isn't going to give it up, and that you aren't going to understand why it is important to her then you have a chance. If you think you can convert her, or if you think you can learn to understand why she is religious then you probably do not.
Good luck, it sounds like this is something you are really needing and it also sounds like you got along with her really well, aside from the religion thing.

Yeah she seemed more bothered by my atheism than I was by her religiousness. I definitely enjoy that discussion, it's just not suited for a first date. She's not like an activist pushing some kind of agenda, though, so it's one of those things that yeah I don't agree with but it's not exactly a deal breaker.

We're gonna go for a round 2 though. She appreciated that I even reached out afterward, she thought I'd written her off and I thought the same about her. We could've totally squashed it then if one of us had spoken up about it, and we both realize that now. So the communication wasn't exactly instant but it's there.

If your response is "I don't know", isn't agnosticism a better description for your worldview? Atheism is a belief just like theism.
BTW congrats on your first date in a long time. You still gonna hang out with her? Next time maybe try to build bridges and find common points instead of highlighting the differences.

Atheism is specifically a lack of belief in a deity. It doesn't describe belief in anything.

I think TM said it best.. "Every explanation of the beginning needs one miracle." And I'm paraphrasing.

So we talked it out and agreed it was a huge mis-communication and mixed signals, and we're totally down to see each other again. We're still texting right now and we'll probably go out again Friday.

Nice save!

Theism refers to belief, gnosticism refers to knowledge. Technically everyone is agnostic.

Exactly. If religious beliefs were tv channels, my TV is off.

so people above the age of 15 still think atheism is cool in 2020? Have you ever considered agnosticism, or maybe just not labeling yourself as anything at all? or would you not get enough attention from others if you didnt do & say edgy shit?

Religion and politics should always be avoided at parties or dates, imo. Guess it's kind of hard if you have a tattoo though...
I'll only get one tattoo ever in my life. As it mirrors my own philosophy, which is absolute.
