Lately, Ive been trying to surf random websites and I keep getting "Security Certification Errors". Why does it keep happening?
How do I fix this?

Nope, looks accurate to the current time and date. Maybe if I adjusted it a bit into the future or something....

I just went into Adjust Time/Date Preferences and clicked "Sync My Clock". Maybe that will fix the issue.

i'm not a computer expert, but I think its a problem the website has . And i can do research
a web search for "Security Certification Errors" yields
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%22Security+Certification+Errors%22&t=h_&ia=web
picking one yields
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie11-iewindows8_1/security-certification-errors/fa583359-3fa6-4dd3-a2f9-a0e4872a07c6
"Vijay B Replied on July 7, 2014 Hi Donald,
A website certificate provides identification of the web server. If the certificate has an error, it might indicate that your connection has been intercepted or that the web server is misrepresenting its identity. If you're absolutely positive of the website's identity, you know that your connection hasn't been compromised, and you understand the risks, you can choose to go to the website. However, we recommend that you don't ignore a certificate warning.
1. Open your Internet Explorer browser then go to Internet Options. 2. Click on Security tab. 3. Click on Trusted sites, then click the Sites button. 4. On the "Add this website to the zone:" URL bar, type the complete URL address. 5. Click on Add button. 6. Once you already added all URL addresses, click the Close button. 7. Click on Apply or OK button then close your Internet Explorer browser.
Also refer to the link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/internet-explorer/certificate-errors-faq#ie=ie-11
Do get back and let us know the status of the issue, I will be glad to help you further. We, at Microsoft strive towards excellence."

There could be a ton of different reasons. The websites might be using old certificates, your settings might be configured to reject certain certificates, the websites might not be properly setting up their certificates and trust chains.
Alternatively, the most unlikely situation, you have an active attacker trying to MITM you, and tricking you into accepting a bad certificate so they can steal your credentials, and what not.
Alternative to that, depending on the type of browser and device you are using, the websites might be using encryption ciphers that aren't supported, or SSL/TLS versions that aren't supported.

What is the actual description of the certificate error? There should be a "details" or "advanced" toggle on the error page which will show more information, eg. "key pinning failure", "self-signed certificate", etc. Without this info it's hard to say. However a common cause for SSL problems on PC is antivirus or "security suite" software, ie. anything which promises to protect you from internet-based threats. Old or poorly-written software injects its own certificate so it can monitor encrypted traffic, and this can cause modern browsers to (correctly) issue a warning. Are you only having this problem on a computer that's running software from Norton, McAfee, Avast, etc?

It doesnt show the details but i will definitely note them down next time.
I figured it was a pretty complex issue. I think i "may" have fixed it recently as i finally "activated" a new modem i got from ISP. It would seem i havemt seen the error in awhile.
Its just weird that the modem would give me access to websites before its activated and only occassionally give me this Security Error. I will make an update on it tomorrow sometime.

Interesting, I've had this kind of thing happen before when I've used certain WiFi networks, particularly those that use "captive portal auth".

I have a bad experience surfing random sites before that ruined my PC's hard drives. Use a quality VPN so you don't get to experience this.
