Lion's mane wedge

I have a few Lion's mane (FP Hericium erinaceus) wedges on Hydrogen peroxided agar that I could send someone.
(I am uncertain on how one mails a wedge though. Do you just cut a wedge and drop it in a baggie and mail it?)
I am interested in getting Maitake, Shiitake, Agaricus subrufescens, Pleurotus eryngii or Hypsizygus ulmarius if anyone has them.

I put a wedge in like a dime baggy inside a sandwhich baggy inside a pitri dish. Labeled on the baggy and on the petri dish as well. Inside a bubble envelpe.

I just got a fruiting block of Japan's #1 shiitake strain. Gonna try Dr Wayne's 'cardboard agar' to make a few mailable cultures. Would love to trade with you.
The block is fruiting now, but they will take a week to grow out onto the medium. PM me if you're keen.

@Anno: Do you use any kind of sterilization on those ziplocks ? I think they are made of PE and can therefore not withstand high temperatures. I ordered some PP bags (in fact card-protectors for TCGs), they will be delivered this week. I will than make some test, how much heat for how long the will withstand. If anybody is interested in the results, I can post them.

I belive they are pretty sterile as is. its a plastic factory not to much organic stuff floating around in the air me thinks. I never had any problem with contams from plastic bags of this sort.

I put two wedges into mini centrifugal tubes and wrap them up. I get mini centrifugal tubes at a local science surplus store. 5 cents a piece.

Same as Anno, though sometimes i just put it in something that bulky and still springy like thick folded paper or a brochure.
Lays flat and indistinguishable from a standard letter so cheap to send - maximum AU$1.65 anywhere in the world... now thats value
so far people whoce used thi smethod and sent to me ive had about 90% success rate, i only lost the golden oyster but this may have had hidden contams already. Zip lock bags are sterile, and you can assume any other fresh sealed plastic is too.
They do not autoclave well..:O

I tried your lay flat method with the half dozen cultures I've sent out to those who PM'd me. I am hoping it works!
Umm, not to rain on your parade, but my worldwide mail fee is USD$0.80!

Well 6 months ago that was about US 0.80, with our dollar way now though we are getting ripped off
(However its a great time to buy books n stuff from the US cos our dollar goes further. Been spending all available reserves before bush gets kicked out and americas economy recovers :P
for example a US 90 dollar book would have cos me $160 - 6 months ago, now its dropped by approx $40 so its amazon fever in April )

How about using crown caps (bottle caps) as vessels for posting?
Wiped with alcohol they might be pretty clean... Or how about making little agar plates from them? (edit: 1-2 ml of agar would be adequate amount...) Just some foil or tape (or both) to seal and then tape the cap face down into a piece of cardboard... (edit:I mean so that the agar is facing the cardboard.) It would be quite durable package, I imagine..

Seems like a good plan if one can keep the cap from cutting through the envelope!
I would picture it more as a vessel to contain a sterile package (i. e., a baggie) rather than a sterile vessel itself but who knows?

(staged) pictures of a package that has been sent through the mail:
 before
 after
the cap didn't cut through the cardboard even when I quite violently tried it - but I am not a postal worker, though.. (note the tape between the cap and the cardboard (vertical))

I put the culture that you sent on H202 agar on 4-22.
Today the plate is colonized. It is the fastest shiitake culture
that I have by far. The only culture of any strain that is faster
is speekers' reishi.
Did you find me any Yamabiko Hon-shimeji yet?

I think he has found that for you! http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2644508 That reishi sure is a fast colonizer, but I haven't been able to get it to fruit yet..hope it will fruit... About that bottle cap "hint" I made earlier in this thread.. It works, but you cannot say it's a very easy method... Almost a 'chindogu' idea - needs developing... edit: some very promising looking growth is showing in the reishi bags now..I had not inspected them for a while...
