Spore-Printing Idea: Will It Improve Cleanliness?
    #26499059 - 02/22/20 08:39 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

So I came up with a pretty good idea that should work.

I was thinking of laying down a large stainless steel fender washer on a piece of foil. Then laying the spore cap onto of the stainless steel fender washer.

The purpose of the fender washer is to prevent direct contact between the shroom cap and the foil below it and thus making a "cleaner" spore print. Then covering it with a glass jar.

Is this a reasonable idea to improve the cleanliness of a spore print?

I think a stainless steel grid/baking rack has a similar affect and keeps the fruits having direct contact on with the foil but at the same time letting the spores drop freely for a nice clean print:sporedrop:

Yeah

Im trying to improve the spore "yields" with this fender washer idea. I wonder what the average fresh shroom cap diameter is....:strokebeard:

Move printing fruit onto a new piece of foil after a couple hours for a super clean pint.
Cube caps can be large but pan caps are tiny

A Cookie rack is the bomb! You can sterilize it in the oven and it keeps the prints off the foil.

Do you see an improvement in spore print cleanliness when put on agar vs. no cookie rack method?

I picked up some large washers from the store. 5/8" ID, 7/8" ID and 1" ID. Looks like the right size from what Ive seen in shroom caps. They are only Zinc, not stainless like I wished. Oh wellz.

Also found some Nylon Flat Washers. They look kinda like men's wedding rings. They definitely look usable for this experimental technique.

I wonder if you printed directly to agar for fun what it would look like...

I don’t see much at all. They are all usually fairly clean. But I like how I can remove all the caps at once so it’s one quick movement rather than poking 15 caps with a needle, scalpel or toothpick.  It’s more production style printing.

Good point. Full Scale clean printing. Very cool.

Plus you can use the cookie sheet for sun-drying in the summertime. :sunny:

My large Zinc washers are looking great for small-scale printing. Im pretty excited.
