I started a thread yesterday but want to leave that open for any questions I need answering, this is just what I have done with my time, I am open to helpful advice and suggestions because this is my first time grow. Disrespectful comments will be taken with heed.
I will go step by step with what I have done so far.
In the flurry of all the information just on these boards I decided to go with Rye berry mini mono tubs with coir and Verm but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Plan Layout:
>>>-6 32.0z wide mouth jars>>> -12 9qt mini monotubs<<<
Syringe Species: Cubensis; Fatass
——————————————————————————————-——————
1.
I started off with rinsing my Organic Rye berries, I did this by filling a large pot with my Rye berries (pick out any visible debri), then adding tap water about a quarter from the top and swirled it around until the water was dirty, emptied that and repeated this three times until the water was nearly clear.

2.
Next I allowed my Rye to soak on the counter for about 16 hours, with a heavy handed Tablespoon of Gypsum mixed in. I noticed it began to ferment a bit but that’s all the stuff your trying to bring out of the Rye and get rid of anyway so goodie!

3.
After the soak, next was the boil, this part I was worried about. At this point I’m still feeling good, the Rye looks amazing, no sprouting or bursted grains, and the Rye has definitely absorbed a good amount of water. I used the soak water and just filled the pot up a bit more until the grain was all covered, then I put it on the stove with a brave face. The pot I used is large so I knew ten minutes starting the stove on high might not reach an even boil. So I stood over that pot like a hawk, with it on med-high, stirring it ever so often so nothing was burning on the bottom, at about 13 mins is when it reached that perfect quick simmer. Happily, everything is still looking good, grains are still what they should be in my mind. Next!!

4.
Next was the grain cool off period, I had to get a little inventive because I didn’t have a mesh strainer, so the best thing I could find in my house was *drum roll please*, a large pizza baking sheet, it fit over my sink perfectly and well that’s all I had! So using a large spoon I started turning and releasing as much steam as possible, I did this for about 40 minutes until all the steam had evaporated. I also did the paper towel test, seemingly so I passed! On to the jars!!

5. I know many people say not to use wide mouth jars, but again that’s what I had! Originally I only had 4 32. Oz jars that I was going to do but I ended up with way more Rye than I expected due to expansion, so I loaded the four clean jars with grain. The remaining grain I left in a colander for circulation wrapped in Saran Wrap, at this point I wasn’t sure if I was going to throw it away or make more jars, but I ended up doing two more jars. I used Bods easy Polyfil tops for the first four jars. This seemed innovative and cost effective for someone just beginning like myself. I put the tops onto my filled Rye jars, and then foiled the top very well. I used two pieces of foil folded over once each, onto the jars making sure the necks were snug. PC HERE WE COME!!

6.
I ran into another problem here but like all journeys I found my own path, and more so wasn’t really a problem but something I didn’t foresee. I had planned on using two pressure cookers, different brands to compare, but low and behold one of them wouldn’t close with the large wonky 32 ozers! Of the two that did fit them, I loaded it and PC’d for 60 minutes at normal. Valve released, and allowed to sit for 6 hours, these were then transferred to the SAB box for 2 more hours of cooling. **At this point I had work and my partner took over, The other two jars had been sitting on the counter at room temperature for 6 hours foiled and ready to go. My partner pressure cooked initially for 30 minutes on high, and let cool for 2 hours, I got back right when they finished and didn’t think it was long enough,. discussing it, we decided they would be an experiment, and back in for another 90 min at high they went. After valve release, they sat in the PC for 8 hours.
>>From here on, jars are in groups 1+2, 3+4, 5+6<<
7.
Jars 1+2 are now in the SAB, and have cooled for 8 hours. Inside the SAB I have the jars still foiled, a lysol wipe, a lighter, and my spore filled syringe. I have vigorously shaken my syringe, taken the foil off the jar tops, gently wiped the jar lids with the Lysol wipe, uncapped and sterilized the needle tip with the lighter (being super careful not to melt anything!), taking the needle and sliding it between the Polyfil and the puncture holed edge, gently squeezing about 3cc in one and 4cc in the other jar. Sterilizing the needle in between jars with the flame. Holy Shiitake, it can be very nerve wracking the first time!! But it was done, I recapped the needle and beheld my creation!

8.
I have a sterilized utility closet with lined floors that I will be using for my tub storage and inoculated jar nursery. Jars 1+2 were swiftly moved from the SAB to the nursery shelf, and labeled. The SAB has been re sterilized and reset for jars 3+4 to be moved into it. Jars 3-4 sat in the PC for 8 hours, then were transferred to the SAB.

9.
After transferring jar 3+4 from PC to the SAB, step 8 was repeated in the same fashion but jar 3+4 received 4cc in each of them. These were also transferred to the sterile nursery with labels.
10.
Jars 5+6 are have been done in a totally different fashion that’s why they get their own step! The Rye for jars 5+6 has been in the fridge Suran wrapped for 12 hours, loaded into two 32.oz jars, but I did a different lid tek to try. I did two holes in the lid one in the middle one of the side, I filled the side holes with silicon and sat for 24hours and then filled the middle hole with Polyfil, foiled the tops as before, and then PC for 90 mins on high. These have been sitting for 8 hours, and are about to be moved to the re sterilized SAB. I plan on doing about 4cc in each of them and injecting it through the silicon, and moving then moving them to the nursery.
Jars 5+6 did in fact sit for 9 hours and, then were moved to the SAB, I got a little excited because the first 4 I did only had the hole in the middle to inject into, but these had the silicone side ports, so I was able to inject it onto the side of the glass and see the liquid actually run down, so exciting!! So I was more generous and did 5cc per jar. These were then moved to the nursery with the other babies. Woohoo, updates to come!!
————————————————————————————————————
This is as far as I have gotten, and I will say I feel pretty good about what I have done as of yet! I will continue to add to this thread because it’s exciting to share and thank so many of you for doing it and teaching the rest of us!!
***Have pictures working on putting them up!!

I have a few questions pertaining to the next step, tubbbbssss!!
So my tubs are 9 quarts apiece, 10-inch tall, 12-inch width. I planned on doing 12 of them if all goes well with my 6 32oz jars. I was going to break each jar into two tubs.
1. My question would be how much vermiculite and coir bricks to use for all 12 tubs? I added gypsum to the soak step, but should I add it to this as well? If I should then how much of that?
2.How thick should the casing be in these? I was planning on doing a black hefty bag liner in all the tubs. I’m going to put the coir in a giant tub and use boiling water to sanitize and break up the coir, then I will add the Verm?
3.I have read conflicting comments about casing Cubes. I was going to lay my coir/verm layer down, then gently crumble the spawn evenly, then what?? Very conflicted here!<<
Thanks Everyone!!

Sounds like you're doing something close to shoeboxes or boot boxes. Just read this.
When I case, I just sprinkle coir on top. #3, you make it sound like you're going to case, then spawn on top? Or are you layering? Just break up spawn, mix with sub, then put a little coir on top. Easy
As far as op, why didn't you PC grains for 90+ mins? That's the only thing that would worry me. Also, it doesn't matter that you used wide mouth.

They kinda are, but i wont tell nobody
Im thinking about going back to a semi-glove box (cut the glove part off, leaving the cuffs) so i can have a cleaner SAB when not in use.

I read a few threads today and decided to switch to an actual SAB instead of my glovebox. Thank you for the advice, and also on the cuff idea, I saw someone using just square magnetic sheets over the holes while there SAB were not in use. Pretty pretty clever!
