Picked up 3 airtight foodgrade 31 ltr/8 gal containers for, respectively, 50lbs of red lentils, 25 lbs of oatmeal and 25 lbs of chickpea flour. Already got a 35 ltr/9 gal vat holding 60lbs of rice as my starchy staple.
I'm saving quite some expenses on foods already and have lost some weight while I had the flu and just dug into a well filled freezer full of organic goodies.
I plan to go on a diet this year and want to get healthier food habits, so why not invest in that and additionall, save money and have a good supply in case that pandemic should get fierce.

Well, looks like the cat's out of the bag in Europe: https://www.thelocal.it/20200221/three-italians-test-positive-for-coronavirus-in-lombardy Since the man worked for multinational Unilever and has been in contact with ~60 colleagues, a spread outside of Italy is conceivable.

Iran has 28 cases and 5 dead = 18% mortality of known cases.
Could there be a disease pocket there?

We have some In the state I live. Anyone think this may take out a large portion of the population. Reading about the bubonic plague. But also remember when my neighborhood I lived in though it could be spread by mosquitos with AIDS? And homesexuals of course but not lesbians for some reason.
If it spreads greatly here oh well. Always thought of different ways to eliminate the overpopulation of the earth and this was always the top of the list from what I researched.
Will see. But if it gets to that level of globalism it won't matter if you choose to just hole up and be away from it. Lot of people with a lot of plans for the world. Is amusing how stupid people are.
Fearmongering. Whatever. Just if shit happens I know. Watching the show about the bubonic plague wiping out 1/3 of the worlds population. It is not lost on people that know history. But sure it will just be a SARS or such though it outpassed it.
That is the way to depopulate the world. Through a virus. Not Nukes.

I don't know, there was a U.K. you drunken Brits where they had to stay drunk to a certain level so they wouldn't get infected by aliens or something. I think our governments are aliens.
Getting into serious territory now. Interesting what the Ukraine is doing, not happy about the immigrants carrying it. Will be interesting how it spreads in the States.

The flu is estimated to kill 56,000 people a year in the US. The coronavirus isn't even rivaling the common flu yet, much less comparable to the great plagues.
thousands of people die in the US alone every year due to antibiotic resistant infections with more than 2 million infected. Again that's just the US.
So far the only the that's special about this particular strain of coronavirus is that it's new.
If we as a society actually gave a shit about contagious illness we would force sick leave with pay, especially on service workers who can't afford it and contact everything. We would have someone cleaning the crosswalk buttons. We would have public transport install and maintain better filtration systems.
But we're not. We're just saying ew China cooties and trying to lock away people in contact with China cooties. Which with the way modern travel is, almost everyone has exhanged microbes with someone from China. Unless you live in a rural place.
Afaik this is just the world being silly again. Like swine flu, zika, sars, ebola, bird flu, west nile.
We don't own the world. They do. But the wonderful thing is we were biologically engineered to live with them. And modern medicine gives us a big advantage.
So I'm not saying you shouldn't worry, you should always be concerned with spreading germs. The influenza you have right now with no present symptoms could kill your grandma or someone's baby.
My point is this is something we've really lived all our lives with and isn't worth panicking over.
**I've also read up on some truly terrifying viruses that science hasn't begun to understand despite decades of research. So far (so far as I can tell) coronavirus isn't one of them.
Goodnight and sleep well friends.

China is the one who claimed it had cooties when they went and quarantined most of a billion people. You can compare it statistically to the flu but those numbers don't speak of the reaction that's been had to it. People aren't quarantined from the public because of the flu. Most people don't even get it lab tested even if it's life threatening. It being new isn't why people are talking about it. People are talking about it because there's weird details about the whole thing and without intervention it would be far worse. China also could very well be fudging the numbers or rate of infection/severity could be due to genetics or even apparently a SARS vaccine? Either way, comparing it to the flu is less close of an approximation than one would think.

The flu isnt being AGGRESSIVELY quarantined. The flu doesn't give 1 in 5-6 people life threateningt pneumonia. The flu doesn't kill 2.5+% except in 1919. The Flu is just as contagious as CORVID.
If China hadnt carried out the most intense quarantining in history, 700 million people, with dictatorship-like efficiency, CORVID's body count would have surpassed all that the flu would do already. Twice the population of the US are in quarantine now to stop this.
Don't trivialize what the WHO considers, public enemy #1 for humanity right now.
China is very good about sacrificing people, yet it is absolutely GORING its own economy to stop the spread of this. They don't just do that on a whim.
This is SARS-2. Less lethal, far more contageous.
