Is Damion 50/50 still a thing?

It's been ages since I dabbled in the magic and wonders of mushrooms. It was always, to me, a fun and exciting exp. It was never a massive grow, but it was enough to bring happiness to a few close friends.
Not to ramble on too too much... My go to was always damions 50/50 tech. It was easy, simple, and efficient. Set and forget... Kind of...
So, is the 50/50 tech still a practiced tech?
I just recently nocked up 6 bags of wbs so I def have time to think about it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
I like simple. I like easy.
Thanks.

A lot of people still use the 50/50 with regular success. Recently there's bee more of a trend towards 100% coir which I like a lot.

It’s not and never has been 50/50 coir/verm.
His username is Damion5050.
His tek is 1 x 650g block to 2 quarts verm.

I still use his tek basically but have moved from a bucket to an ice chest cooler. I bought a large bag of verm a while back so I still use 2 quarts per brick but I think after I run out I'll try out straight coir and see how it goes. I like the simplicity of just using coir.

I've done both 100% coco and coco with verm. They both work. I like the texture of the sub and the ease of adjusting water content when verm is added. But I can get giant bags for like $15-20. I've also switched to not boiling the water. Saves me tons of time and works just as good.

No joke, I started to PC my coir and I won't go back to any other way, it colonizes noticeably faster. No idea why, but myc rips through cooked coir . Casings are a different story, have to pasteurize, but 100% coco gets the PC treatment.

Thats a lot of effort and an unnecessary step. Usually get full colonization in 10 days max without doing anything. But if it works for you

I've heard some say that the hot water coir method works better no because of pasteurization but because it cooks the coir and the mycelium is into that. That might also explain why you're getting better results with the PC. But I agree that's a lot of extra work.

Damion 50/50 is like buying NOS energy drink and pouring it in your gas tank.

I use turkey bags, fits 2 tubs worth of coir. I'm never in any rush so the extra 45 min pc isn't a big deal. I usually let it sit until the next day anyway

Makes you wonder if there is a perfect ratio of coir grams/ verm/ water Oz to allow you to just PC the shit right in the bottom, no jars or bags.
I will say I did coir bucket, and then PC some CV in jars and the tub with the PC'd coir is ripping through it was faster than the non PC'd batch. But this is just a correlation one tub is crumbled cakes and the other is spoiled spawn.

I got you, I just wondered if you can put brick in bottom of PC, add 2 quarts of verm (optional Gypsum) and add water and pc. Like the way normal people use a pressure cooker.... No rings/ no racks or cloth. I wonder, I guess I will test this tonight and make a big old batch of CV, straight in the pot.

Be careful, as loose coir can swell and block the vents, leading to a loud unexpected opening.

Some still use the method. But No ones boiling coir anymore.Just add hot tap to coir. Spawn 30 minutes later. Done. No tek required. I find it actually colonized faster side by side with boiled coir.

Haha.. I get it, I get it..
It's not a 50/50 Tek.
When I did use damions Tek I would add my brick and coir into a 5g bucket, pour boiling hot water into the bucket, snap on the lid, and let it sit for about 45 minutes.
Maybe I'll try the 100% coir this go around.
Awesome replys! Thanks!
