This is a thread for people that want to get better at their craft.
Here we will be critiquing artwork.
A little on critiquing.
A critique is not a friendly affair, if you post artwork in this thread it may be taken apart and could hurt. If you cannot handle that, do not post your work in this thread.
A critique is a chance for fellow artists to help each other out in an indifferent and impartial way. And it is a chance for all involved to learn and broaden their craft.
What it is not.
It is not a chance to hurt somebody else for jollies; It is not a chance to insult somebody’s work for the sake of revenge; it is not a chance for somebody to boost their insecurities by bringing someone else down.
If any of the above is spotted, it will be called out with extreme prejudice.
All criticism should be productive and beneficial.
Don’t tell somebody ‘it sucks’. That’s bullshit.
With this in mind, I will post the first.

Hi, good idea for a thread.
I first want to say it's an interesting image. It held my attention and I wanted to try and figure out what was going on. I read the labels on the saddle bags (if the image was boring id probably just glance over quickly). Good composition too.
There are a few quirks in your drawing, obviously it's stylized so its not meant to look "real" or follow perspective exactly. But I would say it would be stronger if the man's face had more solid construction. Also both the bear and man's back legs are lacking volume and look flat (compared to the bear's front leg which feels like it's round). The bears head is good and well constructed, it looks solid. Just wish those ohter areas were up to that quality.
Overall pretty good. It is interesting and that counts for a lot.

Can you elaborate on defining the face?

It's more construction than definition, it doesn't follow the laws of perspective as well as the bears head for example. Although some artists will play with these rules to get effects that they are after.
Here's a couple of examples of head construction following rules of perspective as it turns in space. This first one is by Andrew Loomis and he has a really good method for this, you can find stuff by just searching loomis head construction.

these are someones attempt at using Loomis' method but they are off in places which distort the features.

...and again an artist can distort at will, but its handy to practice proper constuction. Which I can see moreso on the bear.
