Aerial Mycelium, bacterial or?
    #26496971 - 02/21/20 01:01 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

Have been lurking for a while now for my first grow and finally at a point where I am unsure/ found enough conflicting information to post.

So far it’s been;
B+ syringe to agar,
two transfers agar to agar to a clean plate,
dropped a couple wedges into WBS (no boil soaked 24hr).

Substrate is coir only(first grow, what I believe to be field capacity), and about 1 to 3 colonized WBS to coir, with a very thin coir “casing layer”.  I started this Sunday (5 days ago) and now I am seeing mycelium growth through the top layer and wondering if this is healthy aerial mycelium, a response to possible bacteria, low FAE, too wet or ???

Tub is a 16 qt sterilite with no holes and the lid is latched with about 3 inches of substrate.  I know putting immediately into fruiting conditions is being recommended now, but figured that keeping it sealed isn’t doing any harm (maybe) but possibly just slowing it down and I’m not in a rush.

I believe I will see fruits from this, just want to get a better idea on what I am looking at so I can improve my technique.  This site has been amazing with information so thank you all for getting me this far.

Appreciate the reply, just want to make sure I’m doing everything right so close to the finish line.  It seems a lot more dramatic looking at it in person 😂😂

It could be a bit dry.

I’ll give it a mist and see what happens!

Dark coir means it’s wet. Moisture content looks fine by eye. If the coir gets lighter in color you can always give it a mist. But I would  Wait it out. Are you going to introduce fruiting conditions in a few days?

Yo it looks great, everything you said and all your prep and shit is perfect. the fruiting conditions thing is not fruiting conditions as growing conditions and then it fruits on its own. Let it colonize longer it let it do its thing it's going to fruit heavy in your face soon.

what you are seeing is the strength of cubensis

I had planned on introducing fruiting conditions once I saw the casing layer become colonized.  I got thrown off once I saw the mycelium reaching up out of the substrate, rather than branching out over the surface.  I was thinking it was FAE but also saw some 5+ year posts that suggested it might be bacterial, hence my dilemma.

Cronicrr can you explain the growing/fruiting condition confusion. Or maybe bodh can cause he is where I learned it. Growing conditions are fruiting conditions but there is more to it.

Leaving it be.  Is the upward growth typical? Based off watching it grow on agar (2d is different obviously), in jars and other grow journals, I didn’t expect it to grow upward and was definitely a surprise when I saw it.
