How am i supposed to lower the humidity in a rubermaid with fruiting straw (Pleyrotus) inside???
I am afraid to leave the lid open because of contams, but fruiting seems to be shitty with so high humidity levels...
Shall i leave the lid open a bit?

Heat up a phillips head screwdriver and punch holes in the sides of the terrarium (how many holes depends on the size of the rubbermaid), and tape pieces of tyvek over the holes. If you don't have tyvek, go get some. It's at the post office, in a little envelope holder on the wall. The envelopes are big, and the say "priority mail" on them, and there are several tyvek logos. Have fun.

Hey thanx for the input, but i thought that maybe there is a way of doing it without making holes in my new Rubbermaids....they are for shrooming alright, but i just dont like the idea of making holes . and have to close them after a while, and then again,,,blah blah
Any other idea?

dont use perlite,just mist the walls.

Fanning more frequently also will aid in lowering RH , misting less , putting a timer on your humidity system (if using one ) , adding holes will help , but do not forget to filter the openings , this will help reduce chances of contams coming in those holes .

I dont! Its just straw, fruiting in a rubbermaid, i keep misting like crazy, but its still high!
I even wap the humidity off the walls....

then i dont know what to tell ya,the thing to do is make 1 or 2 holes about 2 or 3 inches around and cover with Tyvek or fill with pollyfill.,and fan more,besides that i dont know what to tell ya.

Cut back on the misting this will lower the humidity , just cause moisture is on walls does not mean humidity is too high . Do you have a decent rh meter ?

if the straw is fully colonized you can leave the lid off for a little while at a time...

Yes, i just calibrated my hugro too!
